Your favorite car 'if you had the wherewithall'...

Not the daily commuter vehicle, the car you'd take Sunday summer afternoon rides in?
Aero Morgan with the JAP V-twin engine.
But that's a 3-wheeler.
If it's gotta have 4 wheels I'd go with a Meadows-engined chain drive Fraser-Nash.

There's tons more I could think of, without even getting into the real exotics. Anything in the last 70 or so years could qualify. ('49 Hudson Hornet?, '64 Barricuda?, '66 Toranado?, '72 Riviera?, etc.) There's too many. Of course, they have to be mint, because I'm sure any of these 'classics' at one time, were someone's rust-bucket POS!

two many, it has been a curse my whole life. A friends dad gave me a 1974 thunderbird to run in a demo derby when i was like 14. then i was bitten. by the time i was 17 i already had a 454 and a 390 fe block in my garage for the "future." I've got so many projects its not even funny. I'm 24, finishing up law school, and still skipping class to tinker on a damn yamaha lol. still have to finish a 69' BSA firebird and a 74' commando 850. not to mention replacing the interior for the bmw, and getting that 454 to oklahoma from virginia to go in the truck haha. its a labor of love, honestly, who wants to actually drive them anyway? what would i even do when they were all finished?!

Back in '76 there was a used car lot down the road from the main gate at Nellis AFB( isnt there one at EVERY US base?) and in it's inventory was a Ford model "T" and an "A". $2500 either one. I was VERY tempted got get one(both). I thought the "A" would have been a more practical choice but didn't pull the trigger on either.

ARRRRRRGH! The dreaded, "I had a chance to...." I've missed so many deals it makes me sick! But, if I'd gotten that 64 Impala SS with the 'fuelie' 327 in it when I was 14 in South Dakota, I'da killed myself in it. The 69 GTO I passed on in Kansas? It's motor shelled out a coupla weeks after I passed... How about that 69 R/T 440 Charger I coulda bought? My buddy flipped into a lake trying to outrun the State Patrol that summer. So, all in all, maybe I wasn't MEANT to own those cars...? Groooaaan. Did I just SAY that? Good GOD I'm getting old...

I know whatcha mean. That rare Opal GT variant I almost got was scooped up by a friend, gift for his wife. She centerpunched it 2 weeks later. Totally destroyed. Never found any others like it...

You know you're getting old when you get up outta your easy chair, and wonder:

"Now, why did I get up?"

I'm an old car guy, and that means I find something to like in all of them, even the junk I had. When I look back, from the brand new Terrain my wife has, to all the old cars from Cadillac, Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Buick,Honda, Toyota, VW, Ford, Chrysler, Rambler, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, etc., my biggest smiles if it comes right down to it are the GM cars from the late 50's to early 60's. I'd give a leg to get my blue 60 Olds convertible back.

Thats how I am. Lots of neat cars from all makers either two or 4 door. Recently started to love late 40s and 50s cars from ford, dodge, and chev. Love the art deco interior and exterior styling.

rather see a young guy (younger than me at 33 I guess) taking pride in his 4 door chevelle he fixed up than seeing it crushed. I get bugged all the time for my 4 door valiant.....by people with nothing. Haha.

My favorite car that I owned was my 87 Toyota MR2. It was fully loaded with t-tops and a tiny 1.6l. It was the best handling car I've ever owned. When I met my wife for the first time we were walking to my car and she just laughed. Because the car was so low it only came up to my waist being 6'5". It wasn't the fastest in a straight line but throw a few turns in there it would give almost anything a good run for its money.

The nicest car I've ever driven was a Porsche 911/977 twin turbo. Wow it was so nice. I drove it on a race track for 3 laps and hit 138mph on the back stretch. Everything about it was perfect.

Now I'm saving my pennies to buy my bosses 65 Impala. It's a nice driver with a 454 and turbo 400. The paint isn't the best and the drum brakes scare the crap out of me. Lol

I've been pricing out a hydroboost setup for it. There isn't much room under the hood.

The where with all........
Back in '74 a friend of mine was winter watching a house and campground down in southern south jersey. On the property was a huge barn packed wall to wall with classic cars. Off the top of my head I recall a '60 Cadillac convertible, a '50 Ford convertible, a couple Nazi Mercedes staff cars, a Stanley steamer and various others.
The where with all would be for the Auburn boat tail Speedster that was in the collection.

I finally got to see one of those at Harold Warp's Pioneer Village, Minden Nebraska.

http://www.pioneervillage.org

Unbelievable place. Over 150 cars. One each of most manufacturers, each year.
Same with motorcycles.

He had the wherewithal, and it wasn't enuff...
