For Sale - 6-Piece Finned Valve/Points Covers

bumping this back up. I hope to have some final renderings this weekend.

I'm also looking into a local, small casting house for quotation as well.

Scallywag303 i recently purchased a stator cover of this guy on ebay. The price and product was great but i wouldn't pay 300 for these parts.

oh ya, $300 is outrageous, unless he only made a few sets and developed the tooling as well. i wouldn't be posting these for a group buy if they were that high.

i'm really shooting to have a price this weekend, so fingers crossed!

I was happy for the price but the machining wasnt perfect. You get what you pay for. This guy is a garage builder so i respect what he is putting out. But for 300 it should be perfect and something out of the box

Gotcha. And I would think for $300, you'd get all 6 pieces and even anodizing or polishing :)

some updated renderings. The design is complete, just working on pricing now.

There will certainly be a quantity discount for machine setup time. I think at least 10 sets should get us the best price. I'll have numbers for everyone asap.

In case anyone was wondering I did speak with some local aluminum casting houses that are "low lot size". They have a minimum of about 100 lbs for a pour. 10 sets is only about 20 lbs, so we would need far too many right now. Not to mention the machine set up after the castings to clean everything up. Even with me 3D printing all their mold cores (for free), patterns still run about $1500.

Since I doubt I can get 50+ sets right now, machining will be the best bet. Prices updating soon.

Hi wannabridin,
a fair amount of that 100 lb pour will be runners, sprues and risers and surely they can set up to include a small number of cover sets amongst a pouring for multiples of something else?

Fred,

I believe their policy was such that they wanted the total weight to be of the parts, not the ancillary material.

I did look into their cost and added in the final machining and I believe at high quantities, we're still at a wash between the two methods.

I don't want to rain on your party.................But..............If you expect to have all 6 pieces, (2 cam covers, 3 three sided tappet covers and 1 square tappet cover) + polishing for less than $50 a piece your kidding.

The machine has to be set up for 3 different pieces for one set, (sure discount on bulk), the cost of the alloy for each cover + time for setup and machining, then polishing, + a profit margin for the manufacture, + postage to you.

You guys would expect a small profit for yourselves.

And your saying $300 is outrageous.

Skull, in all honesty, this is just for fun. We are interested in these parts and having a diy mentality is part of such endeavor. If this happens and everyone can get parts at cost so be it, on the other foot if it happens we can make a buck that's of course not a negative for us. We both have jobs that provide, throwing extra gravy on the potatoes is of course welcome, but ultimately not the goal.

Skull. If we get 10 people to commit to a set, then we will have the sets for under $300, shipped to US locations.

Right now our prices for the first 10 sets are looking to be about $265 shipped. We don't really care about making any money off the sets, as this isn't cheap by any method. But for what it is, we feel the price is excellent.

I will likely be deburring the parts by hand and leaving final finishing up to the end user, in case they want to paint, p/c, polish, anodize, whatever.

So that being said, how does $265 sound for everyone that has posted interest. We have a good list so far an need at LEAST 10 to get this price. Let me know!!

Hi wannabridin,
leaving the final finish up to the end user will sure cut down the work-hours for you.
I see semi-gloss black with polished fin edges to match a Heritage Special.
Not mine, though.
Although it's crankcase is still the same deep rich Mercury Outboard black it came with the head and barrels have faded to the natural aluminum finish that they should have been in the first place.
And even though machine finish finned covers would look real nice on my bike I'm way too cheap to pay US$265 to get them.
Mind you, Heiden Tuning sells real nice flat covers that replace the points and advancer housings & covers that a TCI bike don't need. Alas that I'm even too cheap to buy those.
