Out for a jolly on the XS to warm it up and adjust the cam chain. Got a few miles off and stopped for a view of the river. Back on, speedo disnae wurk, whit the fk?? Bolleaux.
Then the 'kin clutch lever flopped to the bar in sympathy. &*&&* thing.
Not sure about the speedo yet, but the clutch was a quick'n dirty re-purpose of a cable brake perch and lever which I'd been planning on replacing anyway, but it decided to vibrate itself loose, throw its pivot bolt away and do me over just because it could.

Ha I went out on mine the other day and the clutch center nut came loose causing me to have no clutch, thankfully I was not far from home and clutchless changed all the way.... locktight and correct torque so hopefully that won't happen again..... F'ing thing lol.... Was going to do some sprinting at Smeatharp one time and I got half way there and the strap holding my battery in had vibrated loose and the battery had fallen out scraping on the road hung off the leads, by the time I realised the battery had a hole in it and was dumping acid everywhere, I do wonder whether the little bike knew I was intending to race it and decided it didn't want to play that day lol.....

you guys are starting to make me feel extremely nervous about my next ride ....:D

All my bits have fell off already peanut, the rattle never stops.......use locktite :D

used to have an early Triumph Spitfire like that.

Passengers had to hold their feet up because the floor had rotted out on their side and every journey something fell off. I used to say 'just chuck it on the floor ' and of course they'd chuck on the floor and it fell through to the road :laugh2:

lost my petrol cap today, and my battery box has broken loose on one side , otherwise a great days riding

Replaced the headers on the '83, remounted the mufflers and took her for a spin. Picked up a horrendous buzz and vibration off and on through various rpm. Loud enough to scare small children and dogs and inflict a terrible self consciousness. Got her home stat and went over the changes. Exhaust system tight? Check. Muffs hitting the rear axle? Nope. Rear axle crown nut cotter pin touching the muffler? Nope. Uh, header to frame bolts on and tight? Check. Well, what the heck.

Put her away.

Took her out again a few days later. All good for about a mile and then there it was again. Wtf?wtf?wtf? All the way home. Went over it all again and there it was! Lost the rear chain guard bolt. Thank goodness for parts and pieces.

you mush have one of those Irish engines Grimly.....all painted up on the outside, and crap on the inside....

you need to do some Maintenance on your bike before going for a ride....not after.....:):)

Done nearly the same, mine was the same bolt, the guard was "wobbly", thought I'd check the bolts and nip them up........what it did was break the bloody thing....rode from home for 1/2 an hour, bang it let go, here i am again on the side of the road......
I think that after a few side of the road stints waiting for tools you don't carry, you wise up, get more tools, do more inspections and buy more locktite....
