Wheel Covers & Ideas

Good find, Cowboy!!!!!!! And they come in pairs, a little support with a well placed grommet. The right tube and stem might be a better start. Balancing beads.............

The valve stem doesn't need a 90* bend, the hole in the pan is big enough to get the air gauge and air chuck in through it.

He's referring to a set of wheel covers made by the likes of mooneyes etc

Hi figure8,
if he'd said "propriatory wheel cover" between mentioning pizza pans and whining about a price I'd have caught on, honest.
Although I'd never heard of mooneyes. So I looked them up. And ran across this:-
a 4-part U-tube video on how to make disc wheel covers out of scrounged stuff.
You'll either love this guy or hate him.

SpongeBobbed, How did you do your hardware/fasteners? Maybe spacers between the pans and the bolts go through the spacers? Maybe some rubber or foam sealer between the pan edge and rim? What about cleaning the covered area once in a while? Tubes would need a 90* stem, tubeless would be easier. Is there such a thing as a 90* stem extension?

That's exactly how I did it. Bought 6 long hex coupling nuts and used them as spacers. Then bought 12 bolts and bolted the pans together using the couplers. I'll see if I can find a better photo. It was great because the pressure from the couplers and bolts cause the pans to synch right up to the lip of the wheel and you don't have to drill into the mag or anything.

Good idea with the coupler! I just made some "propriatory" wheel covers out of aluminum today. Excuse the hell outta me for trying to throw some ideas around. Notice the headline to the video. "How I make motorcycle wheel discs."

JRay, never mind Fred, he's just a grumpy old guy, but I still like to here his opinions. Believe me, Fred's getting a big kick out of what you're doing. Your pizza pans are way better than the stolen stop signs anyways.

Propriatory, That's not even a word. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=proprietary

WHERE'S THE PICTURES?

OK, I'm biting, just imagining what a doofus I'm gonna sound like asking someone on the phone what the exact measurements are of their pizza pans, contours and all. I'll probably powder coat the wheels just for the protection. Still have a lot of work to do, so plenty of time to plan this out before buying the pans and stuff.

The size of pizza pan is easy. Wal Mart has 16" steel pans for $4. I just ordered a 19" aluminum pan from the website you suggested. (Front wheel) There is some math if you want to evenly space the fastners. Take how many fastners you want and divide by 360 (degrees in a circle) I used 7. Because I have seven slices of pie. 360 divided by 7 is 51 degrees.Every 51degrees I put a hole. Simple.

I'm exited to see them on the front and the back. Better hope you don't get a strong cross wind going down the highway, haha. Also, don't worry about people giving you shit, it's a forum and I've found out that's just what people do. I learn to just take the good advice and ignore the rest. Everyone in here has different opinions on how to do something, or whether it's been done before, or how dumb you are for doing it this way or that way, etc. Just do whatever you're into and if people like it, great. If not, who cares. Cheers!!

Add me to the list of folks that want to see those wheels front and back on a bike, even if only a roller.

If like to see pics on the bike also.

Also I have a 18" rear spoke wheel should I get a 18" or 16" pan? Looks like it sits on just the spokes and can see the rim lip.

We need to compare some sizes, sources, contours, general fit at the rim. There is a prize waiting for the best source, price and fit for 16", 18", 19" rims, spoke or mag . One senior coffee with refills at McDonalds will be awarded to the winner, next time you're in my area.

Heavier 14 ga. available in 16", 18", 19". 21". Haven't checked the shipping from these people but the brands look like good quality. Measured some rims, measured a pan at Walmart, yeah, 16" seems to be the best fit for a 16" rim, 18 for 18", 19 for 19" and so on. The Walmart 16 incher, steel, measured 15-15/16".

Looks like 18 ga. being the "standard" and 14 ga. being the "heavy duty" in the world of aluminum pizza pans.

That looks totally awesome JRay. When I finally get those on my bike, I'm never going to mention "pizza pans" again, really looks like a one piece cast aluminum wheel. Went to Sam's Club today, really thought I would see some sort of aluminum pans, but no.
