G'day mates, Tracker build for ya's

Okay, the 'long motor' is finally complete all bar the charging and carbs. It took alot more time and money than i had hoped but i think it looks great. The oil cooler and speedflow stuff should suit the flat track look quite nice.

I like the speedflow stuff, where'd you get all that from?

You must be just up the road from me, if your down my way give me a yell, love to see your finished bike...
Home is Townsville but just bought a house in Gladstone and working here, so we will see how I go.

Cheers guys. Speedflow stuff was chosen out of a catalogue but send me a pm if you like. The paint was done by two seperate mates, one for the base and another for the hand painting. The only things I didn't do were the paint and the seat cushion. Anyway, I done a quick walk around this afternoon.

Good stuff, love the fit and finish. The headlight is the bomb....................

No worries 2M. I knew something was suspect when i dropped the oil so everything got a good going over and the only two bearings that needed replacing were the one in the picture and the needle roller on the end of the shifter linkage shaft.

Today i have spent most of the afternoon trying to fit this front end. Whats the easiest USD fork conversion for an XS? Cause ive sure found the worst haha

Also, i was thinking i haven't done an introduction on here since i joined up so here is a quick run down. I'm 28, living in Queensland
Australia (the sunshine state). This XS650 is my first real 4 stroke bike, its usually the other way i know but i cant wait to ride it on the daily. Im only a pup when it comes to bikes and i still have a lot to learn when it comes to building them but at the moment it is a passion and i am enjoying it. Here is a picture of my RD350 cafe which i built around a year and a half ago.

That is awesome!

Thanks for the encouraging words, I appreciate it. For now, I think I'll just ride it and put some km's on it. I've built a couple bikes in quick succession so its time to enjoy them and also do some refining.

very nice, pity your moving sth and not nth ,would be good to see in person ,is that a brembo front brake conversion ? if so how do you find it with twin front discs ,also like your check valve set up (have a check valve and still debating on how to fit it ) but that head light is definitely thinking outside the box ...well done....also what are the front forks off

Front forks are from a 2008 Hyosung gt250. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone though as i had to extend the neck stem, add spacers to the hubs and calipers to make them work and also use aftermarket XS1100 rotors. All equates to time for me but they were cheap, i'd hate to think how much a shop would charge to do it. The 'check valve' is still the standard PCV system with a -12 line threaded into it with a remote k&n filter, nothing fancy, just for show really.

Bike looks great...RD looks the goods too! How does the XS perform on the street? Any things you've had to change?
Thanks, i love my little RD also haha. The XS handles great on the street and i can see myself getting into some trouble on it. Ive spent some time tuning the VM34's and now it powers along quite well. Only thing i'd like to change is maybe raise the outside muffler so i can angle the bike some more without scraping.

Ok cool...I just took delivery of a matching numbers 73 TX650...now the fun begins, cheers A

Nice job! I am building a 79 Special street tracker so was very interesting to see someone else's ideas. I really like the look of your engine cases. From the picture, they seem to be a grey color with a light textured finish. Is that correct? if so I would like to know what you shot them with. My engine is solid so not coming apart so I have been looking for some kind of coating I can apply to a completed engine.

Looks great! Jealous your complete rebuild only took you a summer to complete... I'm already into my second year with baskets (-_-)

What a great looking bike! I wasn't a member on this forum when you built it, but I'm glad the thread came back up so I could see it. Wonderful looking motor. I'm at work so the videos aren't showing up, looking forward to checking them out when I get home and get access to youtube again. It came together very nicely!

Just been trawling through some old posts and found your build, I am a big fan of RD’s, but getting one even as a knackered project is hugely expensive in the UK, my mate brought a 78 RD400E, it cost him £9500
