I thought to add a thread about some of the other bikes in our lives, (I see from pictures posted in threads there are quiet a few owners with more than one bike) this might be interesting, so here are some of the ones I have the to deal with, some pictures posted and some of the issues I have repairing them.....

Feel free to post up your pictures and of course your "woes" and the :wtf: moments ..........
 
So, I am working part time in a bikeshop, today I went in for a couple of hours being the first foray out of home for weeks now (recovering from a fractured ankle)....

The Norton 850 at the back is what I was and have been given the task of getting back to being a roadworthy bike....the Triumph will be out and gone some tri spark woes....

The sprag clutch was a new addition to an ongoing issue with the whole starter train, comprising of a new solenoid, new brushes in the starter motor. When hooked up to power the gears would spin but not engage. The original sprag, it was in around the wrong way (therefore destroying itself), so I fitted a new one, when the stator housing was put together it was touching the aluminium.....something wrong here, pulled apart again.
Found a spacer behind the larger gear was in around the wrong way, turn spacer around and put back together....
Success, some people shouldn't be allowed to hold a spanner
 
Got 2 cb750 hondas, xs1100 yama one xs650 rider and one xs650 in parts and my 2 up daily rider 1500 vulcan classic that was crashed when I got it that Ive put about 5000 miles on.
 
I currently have another bike that is my long term project. An '82 750 GPz engine in an '76 KZ650 B frame. A Later disc brake wheel and caliper. Custom wireing. 4 running lights, modern fuses and such. Working on the plumbing and mounting of the oil cooler. Awaiting parts.
 
heres some pictures of the projects, the silver cb is my sons he did a cafe conversion a few years back, the xs1100 the same son just got a couple months ago.
The cb750 tore apart is a friend of my sons and getting a cafe conversion, were waiting on tools to take the wheels apart at present. The xs650 is the photos is mine along with the vulcan.

Google says 644 curb weight. I've added other items. So i'd guess around 675 to 700. They are easy to ride though. I took a trip total of 670 miles last week and when I got home I did not have any issues.
 
Other Bikes and Work shop Woes

First off these are just that minor woes, I count my blessings that I have no real problems, just things in the workshop that require more time than anticipated.

First there is the XS 850 that is being converted to wire wheels with dual 320mm discs and R1 callipers. The front hub is the same as an XS 650 so I thought the bracket I made for the 650 would work as a template for the 850. No the calliper mounts on the 850 are off set to the 650 ones and the twin disc Yamahas run smaller discs than the single disc ones. The hubs and disc spacers are bead blasted ready for painting just need to make the adaptor plates.

While I was on the job I thought a hydraulic clutch conversion would be good as well but got a bit carried away machining and went through the case. Fortunately it is where a dowel fits so not too hard to fix.

Then there is the XS650 long rod race crank the refuses to be trued up, this is taking far too long but perseverance will pay off.

Then there is the home brew crank triggered CDI ignition and charging system. Have had it running and advancing but can’t get the alternator cover on due to the position of the pickups.

Oh and I almost forgot the crowning glory. After a many hours making the perfect plug for a fairing mould and waxing it until it was perfect we got a dud batch of gel coat and it wouldn’t set properly so had to scrape it all off and prepare the plug again.

All in all the last little while has not been super productive but this is all part of fiddling about with old bikes.

Good old Norton 850 again, this time the PO had "repaired the bike, well destroyed the engine more like it, left out two of the head studs and that in turn blew the head gasket...My job, extract engine and find out why it blew the gasket....pictures tell the story......

Now when you put pistons in they generally have compression rings intact, the second ring is GONE.....completely gone and the damage is evident, also not shown here but the circlips for the pins were not in the grooves and were hanging on by the grace of god.....

Oh my....what else, cam is chipped, hard facing is worn.....there is a gouge in the casing too....from what? Will pull the casings apart and find out next week....

Jug bolt wasn't doing much here, the broken piece had hung onto the gasket, more luck.....

This was the finished bike, sold, then taken for a road test and BANG, gasket blew oil everywhere and the above tells the story....some people shouldn't touch spanners....

Ahhhh bike was imported from USA, so that must be North American ingenuity 2M. New York I think, probably some fucked up hipster Ha!

Well, THAT explains it. If it came from our southern regions, I would suggest looking for bailing wire. But, from New York? Might check for wine corks in leaky holes...
 
I picked this yz250f up in a couple of boxes to part out and help fund other projects, amazingly enough it was all there and just needed a new piston so I put her back together

. However it brought the progression I was making on the 'ole XS back to a crawl.
 
A tale of two 650 Twins. One has fuel injection, ABS triple disc brakes, water cooled, electronic everything, modern suspension, its powerful, fast and smooth.
The other one....I can actually work on.

Btw, the first one I wouldn't hesitate to hop on and ride cross country, the second one I haven't even heard run yet. Guess which one I'm having more fun with?
 
My current girls, 2014 FZ09 and the 82 XS Basket case. I NEVER owned anything but a Honda till the FZ, however it's managed to sway me. Last winter was busy repairing a 2nd take from fleabay and doing a custom paint job couple with tweaking here and there - ECU reflash, LED swaps, Akro full system etc etc...."farkles". Still need to upgrade the front & rear shocks.

The XS is the latest, basket case "bliss". Engine a mess, valve heads ground, rocker bolts for valves ground out, rings beyond max wear spec, 2nd oversize surprise, clutch plates kaput, clutch pushrod messed up, missing 3 clutch bearing balls (see prior post), block bolts and nuts missing, god knows where the CDI / kickstart / gear shifter disappeared to....Taking my time and enjoying it throughly from the ground up. Managed to find a spoke hub for the rear and bought that NOS Yam rim from fleabay that's been sitting for awhile - so shiny.

Latest reading/hunting/decisions are around the darn carbs and wether to rebuild the BS34s or go hunting a new set I'm not going to have to spend time friggering with heavily up front.

Working on my Cop Bike. Had a hole in the case welded and the frame repaired. While I am at it I'm rebuilding the top end.
I'm not supposed to be working on it but I'm also tinkering with my '67 Triumph GT6.
