What are the details? Was it in a garage or out on the street? Was it locked in any way?
Did it have licence plates? Keep an eye on web sites that sell bikes, such as Craigslist, E-bay, etc.

There was an interesting story a few years ago in Vancouver. A girl had her bicycle stolen. It was an expensive model as I remember. She watched the on line adds and soon it came up for sale. She phoned the seller and arranged to go and see the bike. When she got there she was able to recognize it as her bike from a few unique markers. She asked if she could test ride it around the block. The seller said yes, and she got on the bike and drove it back to her home. I love a story like that.

It was stolen at a wiggles gas station in knoxville tn, it has a licenses plate that said xs650 and i i know alot about the bike so i keep searching on all the sites for a complete bike and parts, hopefully it will pop up some where!

So I guess its fair to say it was not locked or chained. Locks may not make the bike 100% theft proof, but they are a deterrent. A lot of crimes are "crimes of opportunity". If it looks like a quick easy theft, the criminals will go for it. If it looks more difficult or will take more time, they pass it by. Was your bike left overnight in a dark location, or was it parked for just a few minutes in plain site and then gone?

I always lock my bike, even if I'm only going into a McDonalds for 10 minutes. I lock the steering in the full left position, and I lock the rear wheel with a lock through the disc rotor. Can they still steal my bike......................sure they can, if they have some tools with them, or if 2 burly lads want to wrestle it up into the back of a pick-up truck. I'm going to make it hard for the lowlifes to get my bike.

Determined crooks will get your stuff. I recently had a break in at my home. They kicked in the back door, and went directly up to the master bedroom and stole all of my wife's jewelry, that she had collected over 50 years. It was worth about $5000, but insurance only covered it for $1800. Insurance paid for my broken door, and I have beefed up the new door with a "bolt buddy" and a heavy striker plate. Do I believe that will stop the next thief....................no, but I'm just trying to make it harder for those dirtbags.

In the old days they used to hang lads that stole someone's horse. I'd like to see punishments like that brought back for bike theft/car theft and house break ins!

Bastards, pretty distinctive bike, hope it turns up for you.

Is there a register for stolen bikes on the forum at all? You know, vin numbers frame numbers etc?

Buggers....keep checking the adverts and places where people go for Show'nShines (drive-in diners etc.).

Creeps like that will likely just want to sell it, but, they might also ride it somewhere - and that might be a way to find it.

posted the theft up on XS650 North America parts and bikes for sale group on facebook.

OP I think I would post up a stolen ad on your local craigslist, maybe with a reward.

That is a good idea - an old bike like that won't be too easy to fence quietly.

Especially if the new owner becomes a member here. Perhaps someone may have just happened to get a sweet deal in two bikes in NY?
