I swapped out the BS38s for a set of VM34s. But I just recently took notice that my petcocks (I have 2) each have 2 outlets? Do I need to replace these for single outlet ones?

Second,,

Got a new clutch cable,, got it hooked up to the worm gear ok but it doesn't stay put. Is there a clip or something that holds the curved "leader" into the engine case? Also I think I may need a 1 piece rod,,and the ball.. Is there a definitive "how to" here" I did a search but didn't really find what I was searching for.

Thanks for all the kind compliments guys..
Much appreciated

Are your petcocks vacuum? If so one pipe (off the backside) would be to connect the vacuum line from the intake manifold.
The perch adjuster usually takes up the cable housing slack. Tension from that would keep it in-place at the case.

Hi 'fred,
is it possible that your petcocks came off an XS11Special? They are the only Yamaha petcocks I'm aware of that have two fuel outlets.
If so, plug one of them. You do NOT want to get involved with the XS11Special's "Octopus" central vacuum-off fuel system's nine separate hoses.
OTOH, if your petcocks are XS650 vacuum taps, either hook up their vacuum lines to the bikes inlet vacuum ports or do the manual conversion.
You are asking about holding the clutch cable end into the clutch actuator connection as the cable is installed?
The actuator connection came with a little tab that bends over to hold the cable end in place until the cable is installed into the clutch lever.
Most likely the tab on yours has fatigued off some few cable changes ago.
There ain't no clip to hold the curvything in place. You just gotta keep the cable pulled out until it's hooked into the clutch lever.

So I need to run the engine "breather" to the forward facing outlets on the petcocks?
I'm a tad confused.

YES,,, the tank and bike was an XS Special. So I should just probably snag a set of non-special petcocks?
Sounds to me like that would be the easiest fix.
I should have made 2 threads to keep it easier to watch,,,

Your stock petcocks are vacuum powered. They need a vacuum line run to that little nipple on the back to flow fuel while the engine is running. Unless you run them on "Prime", but there's a problem with doing that. The "Prime" position takes it's fuel from the "Reserve" setting in the petcock. Essentially, you will be running on "Reserve" all the time. If you run out of gas, you will be really out with nothing to fall back on. If you installed new rubber intake manifolds along with your new VM34 carbs then you probably lost the vacuum nipples needed to supply the petcocks. The orange hoses in the pics below are my vacuum feed lines. There is one on each side running to the back of each petcock .....

'77 and older 650s used non-vacuum petcocks but they won't fit on your newer tank, the mounting hole spacing differs. You need the newly made, newly cast version that Mike's has had made up to fit your newer tank.

Hi 'fred,
perhaps I didn't sufficiently emphasize that the double fuel spigot petcocks are only found on XS-ELEVEN Specials.
If your bike is an XS650 Special the only stock petcocks that fit in the Special tank's longer petcock holes are vacuum operated.
MikesXS sells a manual petcock that's made to fit XS650 Special tanks or you can gimmick the existing vacuum petcocks to work manually.
BTW, Later model XS650 Specials only have one petcock. You can put a blanking plate on a two-hole tank if you wish.
