What have you done to your XS today?

Round 1 of filtering the "vinegar wash" out of my Special tank.
On the left is some of the crud, that came out. Forgot to take a pic before I filled it back for round 2 but you can just see the clean mettle peaking out at the top on the right. I think one more week, then I'll spray it out at the car wash and fill with baking soda and water mixture to stabilize the acid. Then I'll splash some 2T oil around the inside to preserve it while i start on the outside.

I got all the studs out of my extra cases. I have bought and had to send back two three roller stud pullers because they wouldn't grab the stud shank diameter. Huge hassle. I stopped at O'Reileys this morning and found a Performance Tool Stud puller, part number W83203. It is made like a drill chuck with left hand threads. You put to over the stud and tighten the chuck until it grabs the stud, the the more force you apply to get the stud started, the tighter the jaws grab. i was able to pull most of 8mm case studs with my DeWalt cordless driver and a 15/16 deep socket. had to use the big gun on a few but they all came out clean with no heat.and no hassle.

Hey Doug....congrats on the outcome and way to stick with it......like i alway say....."if it were easy, everyone would do it" ;)

that looks AWESOME! Great work as i am sure that was not easy. looks like a very nice piece of jewelry. WRMDOVR

WT100, great job with the inside of the tank, did you dilute the vinegar? I have this tank to clean out and was going to use evapo rust but that would be costly.

Evaporust is cheap and easy. Fill the tank with it, let it sit for a week. Slish in the morning and before bed. Done. Ive saved two tanks, and garden tiols with it. Works great

I bought the cheapest vinegar I could find and used it undiluted. Used about $9 worth. I filter with cloth and reuse.
I will have a water / baking soda mix ready to rinse it out with when I'm done. Then hit it with 2T oil to hold it till paint is done and I fill with gas.

Here is an example of the first tank I did this way.

Got my sliders back from powder coating, reassembled the forks and hung them back on the bike. Also got my Amal carb back from the machine shop bored and sleeved back to new specs so it is ready to be assembled and put away for, god only knows how long. nothing bolted up permanently, but it is starting to look like a motorcycle.

Tried my hand at upholstery. $50 seat came with a tear. So i got some welting and brass tacks. Turned out ok. Stil a $50 seat, but at least the tear is hidden. Daisy is a good dog

i think that it turned out awesome, particularly when it is done by yourself! I have two dogs, one is half black lab/half sharpei and the other is a cream and tan pitbull with brindling on her back with a pink nose.....great dogs.
