I'm in the process of installing a new MC along with braided line. This may be a no brainer but I need to disconnect the brake light sensor line and I don't want to mess it up. Anyone have any advice? I've tried searching and haven't found any specific info. I'm thinking because it may be pretty simple, I just don't want to break anything if I don't have to....

Hi BBQ: I assume you mean the little electrical connector that triggers the brake light.

That switch (on my '76C anyway) is actually a hydraulic pressure sensor switch and it is screwed into the little brake manifold assembly down below the headlight bucket. The two wires that connect to that switch do not have any marking as to correct polarity - so just hook them up - you can't do it wrong.

Other than that, just make sure that everything is VERY clean - do NOT use any teflon plumbers tape and just screw it in and snug it up. There must be NO leaks anywhere. One more thing - brake fluid is very hard on paint and can give some people a bad rash so don't spill it anywhere or get it on anything you care about.

+1 on the dangers of brake fluid. I'm a messy brake bleeder, have messed up a lot of fresh paint. Cover everything that you can with plastic, keep a spray bottle ready with water in it to spray water on any parts that you may get brake fluid on.

The current mc is original (looks like a dried up pond inside). The new mc is a Brembo from 650 central (lightning fast service by the way). So here is a pic of the old and new. If I'm not mistaken the original sensor (elec) should just unplug and plug to the new mc? I tried pulling pretty firmly but didn't want to break it in case there is a clip or something that needs turning, screwing, whatever first??

On the original brake light switch/housing there is a slot on the bottom, an angled tab on the switch will be visible in the slot, pushing it in with a small screw driver releases the switch from the housing. The new one appears to have a different type of switch already installed, a spade connector is visible, it may use a different mounting method. If so you will need to run two wires with small spade connectors from that switch to the connector in the headlight housing or add the right spade connectors to the wires attached to your original switch.

Ahhhhh - sorry BBQ - that is a totally different design from the '76C model I was describing.

That was it Gary. Thank you and thanks everyone else for the insight. The dog wanted to be in the pic and I think it focused more on her but you can probably see that tab that needed to be pressed in. Just for future reference for anyone else wondering how to do it without ruining it. I do believe I will have to modify it though to make it work on the new mc.

I would just unplug it from the harness and run new wires to the new switch. Make a new little pigtail or harness for the new switch. Save that old one intact for possible future use.
