biker.net site down? PLEASE say it's not so

*..Update 1st- June -2019.......Biker.net is back up and running..........
Link to Main Page.
http://www.biker.net/

the link DogBunny posted works again but it goes straight to the parts section

Dam..............Goes to show we shouldn't take these sites for granted. I have all XS650 PDF's from thexscafe downloaded and converted to jpeg and i went through Biker'net a few months ago and got all of his XS750;850 information i needed to go with all the other XS750/850 technical data from a couple of XS750/850 sites/forums.

I have way more than i thought. I downloaded a lot of different PDF's on different models. a lot were doubled up on different models so there was no need to download the lot. Still short of them all

Sorry about that. After 25 years of running biker.net I pulled the plug. Retirement brings a financial challenge and the cost of the site was to much to bear. I may bring it back one day, but for now it is dark.

Jean

So, there you have it. As yet, there is no response to hosting it someplace else.

I just use dealer sites for parts?? Boats, Partzilla. There was some good stuff there.

As gggGary says dealer parts sites do have the parts diagrams and I know many use them, but I did download the PDF files covering 77D to 79F model years. If anyone needs any of those for any reason let me know.

I'd sure like to have a set of the '76 XS650C parts books and also the '81 books if anyone has those.

Just PM me and I will give you email address.

Many thanks in advance,

Pete

Boats, Partzilla, and all of the other dealers all use the same inferior parts drawings. They consolidate and simplify many of the part numbers as the parts changed over the years. There are lots of flat-out errors and omissions on the dealer diagrams. As a reference, biker.net parts diagrams are the real deal and are unmatched.

I would be willing to contribute to the resurrection of biker.net. Better still, all of the XS650 stuff from biker.net should really be hosted on this site, xs650.com.

Good to hear that Skull saved a lot of it, as well as robinc having 77-79. I have a few of the service manuals, I'm sure all of those have been saved by the collective members. I'm pretty sure that TooManyXS1Bs has the XS1B diagrams in his album. If worst comes to worst, we can probably piece most of it together.
But by far, the best solution would be to resurrect biker.net, or if Jean would pass the files to Travis to put on xs650.com. I will do whatever I can to help, i.e. contribute financially. Please, I am counting on you. Thank you!

There is an irony to all this.......................Jean has been posting this free information from an enthusiast for all enthusiasts at a cost to him and him alone. Now he has found it to be a financial burden and taken this free site off line there is a hue and cry fro this to be saved and money is offered to some one else to resurrect it and host it else-ware......................Why not offer Jean some money to keep his site alive and help him a little with ongoing costs and maybe some extra for his past , give back to what he has been giving all this time unselfishly..................

The same thing with thexscafe.com.................A free site/blog from an enthusiast for enthusiasts and all that information that would have been on this site if it were not for some undisclosed disagreement...............Again we all took advantage of this info until it was taken down, and again because of the realization of its value by so many, and at their urging the owner has reinstalled this information at his cost although he is no longer updating .....................Without the input from INXS this sites tech menu would be a shadow of what it is...................

Of course this is a free site for members but it is also a commercial proposition, (not against that), but this free site comes at a cost for members ................................information data is mined from this site.

Again i say..........those who are prepared to give money, why not give to the original site owner to revive his site

I'm sorry Doug - I hadn't previously been aware of the site and certainly didn't know about any of the financial issues. If I had known about it - I would gladly have contributed to it - just I have to the XS650.com forum.

If you know how we could resurrect the biker.net site - please post the details (such as Jean's email address for instance) and I will contact him myself.

Pete

I think he was involved with the 650Society, jetmarty, 5twins and gGary would know more about that..........................

When i made up the ID/Manual thread i have posted the links to Biker.net and thexscafe stating what they covered, eg manuals, parts files and the range of the coverage relating to the models. Also several links to European XS650 sites for information on this as well.

I used to meet most new members with a few links to get them started but i must admit i have been worn down over time because 9 times out of 10 these same people would back a few days later asking questions relating to information i had posted links to.....................just to lazy to read and the funny thing is they would post a question and spend 2 or 3 days getting, waiting for answers/information when they could have had 90% of that info within 30 min of reading the links............

.

Does Jean have a profile here at 650.com? I'd enjoy the chance to thank him properly for his time, effort, knowledge and expenditure.
