What is the purpose for this stand-off thingy on my brake lever? I just got new brake and clutch levers from 650 Central, can't figure out the purpose of this post thingy. All that I can think of is, it might be for a possible brake light switch for the M/C that I'm not aware of.

Oh, '74 TX650A, stock M/C

Thanks, Scott

Thanks weekendrider. I see how the brake light switch is on the '73. I need to work in a brake light switch with what I have, pressure switch or something. I'd use a switch like the '73 if I found one that worked with what I have.......but the '73 is a cable/drum and the '74 is a M/C/disc, the levers are different and the mounts are different.

So why is my brake lever part '73 and part '74? Is there a switch that works with that post and my M/C ? I can't make any sense of this.

I have new stainless bolts and made new bushings and everything is just fine with the new levers.
Should I just stop hurting my brain and get a banjo bolt pressure switch? Just saying, DAMN this is weird.

Hang in there, Scott. What you've stumbled into is just another of the mysterious 73 TX650 documentation foul-ups.

70-71 front drum brake uses a rotary stop switch, activated by a post on the lever.

72-73 hydraulic front brake uses a similar (306 variant) rotary stop switch, also activated by a post on the lever.

1974 TX650A dropped that, uses a pressure actuated switch.

Here's some pics that show all I could find concerning the 72-73 front stop switches:

This 70-73 parts snippet shows part #43, two versions, 256 for 70-71, 306 for 72-73.

This manual excerpt is the only one that has any mention of that 72-73 stop switch:

This manual snippet shows the rotary stop switch, just above and pointed to by the "throttle adjuster" arrow.

This 72-73 manual snippet shows the disc brake system.
There's no mention of the mechanical rotary stop switch.

This 1974 TX650 manual snippet shows the disc brake system.
Notice that the stop switch is now a pressure switch, mounted on the manifold.

Goofy stuff, huh. Clear as mud?

Wow, thanks so much for your time 2M. I found this $99+ switch for '72 and'73 on ebay.

Mystery continues, if that switch will mount to the '74 master cylinder, I have many doubts. I see no provision for a fastener under the master cylinder casting. Mr Honda would never do this to me.

I see a $8 pressure switch in my future.

Thanks again, Scott
