78e #2 is outside for testing today !

Hi TM,
the sun was also brightly shining in Saskatoon today.
It showed up the 3/4" of new snow in my driveway and the ice ruts in the street really well.
I hope it's a typo that says you intend to deal with your lack of a 35mm socket.
The transmission sprocket nut is 36mm a/f.

Town trip for 36mm socket, bolts, Engine Oil, some Supreme, -Gotta Tighten that front sprocket up, .. Bubs Triumph mufflers are next up to install, ..Close to start up !

I've had a 36mm socket for some time. I needed to buy it quite some time ago when working on someone's Virago. It has come in handy more than I thought it would over the years. It turned out to be the size I needed for the fork caps on some of my other bikes and now for the countershaft sprocket nut on the 650. If you don't already have it, a 27mm is another size you'll need/want. It fits the rear axle and the drain plugs, also the lock nut on the type E cam chain tensioner if you have one. If you have the type D, you should consider upgrading.

In your electrics pic, are those ground wires attached to the side of your battery box? If so, the battery box isn't a suitable grounding point because it hangs off rubber mounts. You need/want to connect to the main frame somewhere.

Spring Test Ride was Awesome ! This mostly stock standard is even better now with all the maintenance and carb tuning. The Uni pods fit perfectly behind the side covers and intake sounds are better than ever ! Pipes rumble smoothed out too as the 4-5k stumble is gone ! Cold mtn air and a leaking rt side cover got me turned around for a beer at home. It Kick starts up so Easy Now ! So Happy thank you 650.com !!

That's a real fine looking bike there:cheers:.
The "Special" parts, chrome speedo/tach, and foot pegs add some pizazz. A chrome chain guard would look good to.

Quote, "Only 14.2 at 4K"......................don't say "only" for those numbers. Around 14.1 to 14.2 volts is perfection. You don't want to go any higher than that. Your battery will always stay charged, as long a it doesn't sit in the garage for long periods.

You appear to have the very good barend mirrors, the Napoleons. I ran one for many years on an SR500 and it worked great, and that bike is a shaker, lol. I think you just didn't have them tightened enough.

Hey 5twins ! 2500 - 4500 is super ! Um Barends, ya I wrapped the expanding sleeves w alumtape. The alum tape glue squeezed out creating lubricant.. A few road bumbs and 15 miles and they were all over. My Bad .. bike is smooth ! -RT

Hi TM,
were the bar-ends all over the road or did they just slither round inside the bar?
I'd put bar-ends on my bike except that I'd previously poured the bars full of a lead shot/coldset rubber mix to dampen the vibration.

That's my dream bike..............................I'm available for adoption. :) I take out trash, mow grass, cut and split wood and I'm pretty handy with a hammer and nails. Oh.....and I'll furnish my own tools.

Yep......that's my dream bike......Gordon in NC
