Hi guys

so i got my new cam chain and im ready to finish up the head but i just noticed the cam tdc marking is on the right side of the cam where the thread end is

do i install it as it or put the cam in so the marking is on the left side

im using a new hughs hand built cdi ignition system so not worried about where the pamco will go

i can upload some photos if that helps

Where did you get the cam?
You can run a cam backwards, but many have stated that the timing will be strange as the right cylinder exhaust lobe is now operating the left intake valve.
Just seems odd that a cam would be that way.

There is a "dot" mark on the right side but there should also be a "slot" or "notch" on the left. The notch on the left, pointing straight up at T.D.C., is what most of us go by .....

The dot is the main mark, just make a mark on the other side of the cam sprocket that is in the same position so you can see it on the left side of the engine.

If you read your repair manual it explains this very thing. Threaded end to the right, Notch in the boss beside the sprocket on the left side points straight up at TDC. The dot out by the teeth on the right side sets flush with the sealing surface.
Hold the chain out of the way and lay the cam in place. With the notch up look where the dot lines up. Lay a straight edge on the sealing surface along the side of the sprocket. The dot should be right on the straight edge.
Try this and see. Then install the cam so it sets that way.
