The 140405 coil is for a CDI system, so you would have to have the CDI electronics to work with it.

On my XS650, I have used the Accel 140403S (its inductive, not CDI) , and its designed to work with points (with ballast resistor) or electronic ignition.

I used it with my old harley panhead that comes with points. In fact had to take it off when installed an electronic ignition because it is got just 2 wires and I needed 3 wires... so it worked with points, at least with my duoglide from 1961. I assumed that works with one capacitor... thanks anyway!
