Hi All:

Some of us in the SE Michigan / SW Ontario part of the world have been talking about doing a meet-up around here - likely on the US side and perhaps in the northern end of Detroit where the potholes are not quite so large ;).

If it goes well, next year, we can hold it over here on the Canadian side (once the snow drifts get down to a manageable height and beavers and moose clear off the road). :D

JRWilliamsQM and I (MaxPete) would be happy to try to coordinate this - he's on the US side and I am in Windsor, ON.

We're thinking something like this might be fun:
  • meet at a burger / diner type place at say...11:00 AM;
  • have lunch and swap lies for a couple of hours;
  • event ends at 2:00 PM or so - plenty of time to get back home before dark.
Any suggestions for a good place to meet, and dates would be most welcome! I think the weather is still a bit dodgey for a couple more weeks, so I'm thinking sometime in the May-August timeframe. It won't be possible to make everyone happy, but we'll sure try to accommodate as many as possible.

Of course all XS650.com Forum members are welcome, even if you're from further away - and any bike is welcome too!

Cheers,

JR and Pete

Ha! This might even motivate me to finally get my passport. I lived a good distance from the border for many years, and let my passport lapse a long time ago. Since moving back to my roots - Sarnia, which is right on the border - I have procrastinated on getting the paperwork done. My wife is rolling her eyes and shaking her head as I write this.

Oh, and I suppose I gotta get the bike running... That's even more important.

Anyway. Sounds like a great idea!

Yup - we'll post it on this thread a little closer to the day.

Should be a blast!

Hi All:

I have sent a message to JRWilliamsQM - but he must be tied up with something else so I will press-on with this.

I think it is time to get going on the first SE-MI - SW-ONT Meet-up. Based on our discussions in April, here are the details:
  • DATE: Sat. July 15 - 2017
  • TIME: 11:00 AM (that will ensure that we get a table and give us time to oggle each other's bikes)
  • I expect we will wrap up by sometime around 1:30-2:00 PM.
  • LOC: Vinsetta Garage Restaurant (a very cool, 1920s filling station/garage that has been remodelled into a really good diner.
27799 Woodward Ave.
Berkley, MI 48072
(248) 548-7711

I have called Vinsetta Garage and they do not take reservations - but the lady told me that if we arrive right when they open at 11:00 AM - there will not be a problem getting a table.

I will pump out a message on the Ontario and Michigan forums and in the general forum of the XS650.com website. Please PM me if you are planning to attend!

Cheers, and hope you are all well.

Pete

One more thing - XS650s preferred - BUT - ALL BIKES WELCOME.

Ride whatcha got and bring it along!!!!

I have not planned a rain date - let's see how the weather shapes up. I will be there regardless of the weather (unless it snows).

Hi All:

It is time for that SE-MI - SW-ON Meet-up that everyone is talking about!

To refresh your memories, here are the details:
  • DATE: Sat. July 15 - 2017 (that is THIS weekend - just 5 more sleeps)
  • TIME: 11:00 AM (that will ensure that we get a table and give us time to oggle each other's bikes)
  • LOC: Vinsetta Garage Restaurant
27799 Woodward Ave.
Berkley, MI 48072
(248) 548-7711

As noted earlier, they do not take reservations - BUT - I was told that if we get there when the place opens at 11:00 AM - there will be tables available.

Please let me know if you plan to come so that I can grab an appropriately sized table as soon as they open at 11:00 AM.

The restaurant is about a 40 minute ride from Windsor - NOT including the border itself - so I would count on at least an hour total. I suggest that the Canadian riders meet in Windsor and cross the border together earlier that morning - say around 9:15 AM. Obviously, Griennehornette, you may wish to use the Blue Water Bridge - but let me know please.

Forum member "Lakeview" is also coming and I hope some others - but I sure hope he and I won't be alone at the restaurant!

I will also a message on the Ontario and Michigan forums and in the general forum of the XS650.com website.

Cheers, and hope you're well.

Pete
