This site is designed for the sharing of information so we can fix the problems of the XS650 we own, (garage Section)............Inaccurate information given will lead to expensive mistakes by, and to the person asking for help to fix a problem. Also inaccurate information can lead to accidents resulting in personal injury and in extreme cases Death. In these cases all the bike will be good for is a boat mooring
The person asking for the help is expecting honest and helpful answers to these problems for multiple reasons. 1, would be to save money by not having to take it to a shop. 2; would be to expect accurate information so the bike can be fixed and back on the road. 3: for the satisfaction of learning and doing the work on the bike for personal satisfaction and achievement...........Just like you
We are all learning..........Your right it never stops.........But..........That but again..........We are not all learning from scratch.........most of the long term regulars here, who contribute to help others, do know more than some one who has just or recently bought a bike and is learning or just learned to fix some parts. Frustration occurs when a newbie, sometimes not so new, doesn't listen and keeps posting questions when that information has been given..................... That frustration can boil over at times. and to be fair it can be justified, and also in some cases because the helper wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, (human nature). It is also justified when a carb thread is running, the helpers are helping and suggest reading the carb guide................The op states he/she falls asleep when reading the carb guide then asks for help with his/her carb problems and gets upset when the helper says "why should i"..............Especially when the helper actually wrote the Carb Guide.
Nothing wrong with saying Dam, Shit or even Fuck.....If in the site rules......It is the context it's used in. If it is aimed at another member then it becomes a slight and is antagonistic.
To understand what someone is saying, then writing, spelling, grammar and paragraphs are important. A sentence can be taken in so many ways without the right grammar and on the net similes are important because we cannot read facial expressions on what is written. Done wrong and offense can be taken........This can lead to bad behavior.
For 1 person to complain on how this site is moderated and run, there are a thousand who say they have never been on a forum that is so helpful in the information posted and the input from the members. For a forum of this size there is 1 moderator and Travis, the owner.
By your reckoning and removing any members, (after 2 warnings), who have argued, you would have removed all the long time posters who do know about 99.99% of the XS650, their problems and how to fix it. To list some of those members...........Me, (but i don't know 99.99% about the xs650), Grizd1, 5 twins, RG, Weekendrider, angus, peanut and a dozen more who have on at least 3 occasions woken up on the wrong side of the bed and logged on before having their first coffee fix...............You would encourage fiction over fact in an effort to keep the peace and a social scene. How would your bike be running if the forum ran on this basis.

In 1973 Yamaha decided to make a limited edition XS650 trail bike..............very few were made, (under 20), and there are only 30 still running in the world............29 of them are in museams and the government have mandated the power weight ratio was not in the intersts of safwty so they made the museams plug the bores so they coukd never be used again. This one has been hidden in a down pipe and burried undergroung so the authoriets could not find it and take it out of commision.
Once every 5 yrears we get it out and do a midnight run past any police station we can find................

here's a tip for you that may help.... when you pick up a beer turn off the computer you obviously get mean when you've had a few, so take take away the temptation to vent your feelings on some inisent bystander.... better for you better for us ! and it's an easy cure !

I can understand the flustration ! especially when the person doesn't seam to read the posts !
but the point I am making is at least TRY not to be abusive even when your flustrated.... I know it's hard its so much easier to give in to flustration and vent on the idiot for being such a dummie.... but it changes nothing ! and adds animosity to the mix which helps no one

I spend allot of time on this Site far more than I should, I am sure. about 4 to 6 hrs a day on avrage I would guess, reading posts and answering questions the best way I know how....
I do that because I like this site and it's members, even if some of them are hard to get along with ! this isn't a perfect world and it never will be but we can try to make it a better place for all if we try !
Even I have bad grumpy days and will say too much when I shouldn't. learning when to keep your mouth shut is a hard one, and comes harder for some than others but that's life and I accept that....
I think Travis has done a marvolus job at keeping this site going and putting up with all the BS here at times.... I seriously doubt I could do it ...to be quite honest about it. but I would try.... because I care.

I agree with RG I have never read of such an incredible vehicle failure history on either bike or car.
I cannot believe the seller wouldn't replace the parts free of charge under some sort of parts Warrantee. Nor can I understand why someone wouldn't ask the question why the same brand new component kept failing ??....
RGs advice is one of the very best I have read on this forum over the years.
Too often diy owners attempt to troubleshoot faults and rectify them by simply replacing the item that has failed with a new one.
Its imperative that we investigate WHY the part failed . A part failure can be just an isolated failure but often it is just a symptom of a problem somewhere else on the vehicle and the component failure is just the outcome .
Electrical issues are consistantly the hardest area of self mechanics for the average owner to resolve . It is a truism that the majority of garage mechanics do not have the faintest idea about electrics either .
With electrical issues one should always seek the help of an Auto Electrician. Someone who is trained qualified and experienced with electrics . We wouldn't take our saddles to a Furrier and expect a repair would we !
Bart..................don't give up. You can find a solution to this issue here on this forum. There are some of the most knowledgable and experienced XS650 people in the World right here waiting to try and help.
You best option now imo is to take your bike to a local forum member who has the experience to help diagnose the charging issue.
if you've already spent $1000s surely its worth spending another couple of hundred $ to get your bike to someone in your State that can help you with this.
I've just read through the tirade of abuse and ridicule in the latter part of this thread and to be perfectly honest its shameful and completely unacceptable.
Its consistantly the same 5-6 members that always are at the root of all the abuse , ridicule , discrimination, arguments and personal attacks on this forum .
I for one will never accept this sort of behaviour from one person to another whether in person or on the net. I will always stand up and be counted at whatever cost to myself to make it clear that this behaviour is not acceptable.
I see that yet another new member and prolific contributor ,(Bob,) has also taken a stand and all it takes is for a few other members to have the conviction and guts to stand up and add their voice and support and we will be able to stamp this out.
If we hadn't lost Bart half way through this thread we are sure to have lost him by now.
Its not about 'growing a thicker skin' ...........its about following the forum rules and membership requirements and giving other people some courtesy and consideration. Anyone incapable of those basic attributes should not be a member of any forum in my opinion.
If someone told me to 'grow a thicker skin' to my face, after insulting me....... I'd tell them to 'get some fuckin manners' swiftly followed by a robust smack in the mouth.! its only because these cowards are hiding behind internet annonymity at distance that gives them the courage to say the things they say.

This forum serves each of us a purpose and fulfills a need of one kind or another. We woudn't come here if it didn't fulfill some need or other.
Whether its the satisfaction that comes from imparting knowledge, helping others, giving something back or just the perceived kudos that comes from demonstrating our superior knowledge to lesser mortals or in some cases trolling and abusing others
Skull , Grizld, WER, and others ,you all need this forum as much as everyone that you are abusing and ridiculing or you wouldn't be here all day every day.
So instead of telling everyone to grow a thicker skin rather than you growing some good manners and courtesy I suggest wise up and stop acting like spoilt children. The forum can survive without you but can you survive without the forum?!

Bottom line: Those who are going to do it themselves need to think for themselves or they'll hurt themselves. If that point isn't made from time to time, we get endless threads with everybody who can type jumping in with misdirection, misinformation, and confusion. What's likely to hurt a man's pride more: a polite, patronizing comment, or something with an edge to it that he can resent?
