Cam Timing Woes... Maybe?

Pete, I'll get a battery from somewhere and make sure the PAMCO is lighting up right, but I'm also thinking it's doing exactly what it needs to be doing and something else is not.

Burdine, it's driving me mad that I am stuck on four wheels when I should be on two! Tomorrow I am going to pull the baffles out and look them over, maybe blow through the exhaust pipes and make sure there's nothing in there even though they spent the last 8 months hanging in the garage! Also, they are not fiberglass backed, I tried that method but it never panned out quite right so they're just cut/bent conduit tubing that's press fit in there with a screw holding it for extra protection.

I'm also going to stop at the local parts dealer and get float needles, seats, and o-rings since mine are originals and I want to make sure that this isn't a float overflow issue gone horribly wrong PLUS the float needles are the only thing left original in these carbs.

These carbs/headers ran well last year until the cam chain barfed, so it's infuriating that now that the engine is rebuilt and riding season is upon us the dang thing wants to act a fool.

If anyone else has even a far fetched guess, I'm willing to try JUST about anything at this point!

This thread exemplifies some of the communication issues with novice members. Some of the suggestions are diagnostics related, like:
Run on 1 cylinder.
Run on battery only.
Results of those tests give more info, targeting the problem.

But, many folks think in terms of "this'll fix it", thinking it's just a single issue, and trying shotgun approaches, like:
Clean the carbs.
Replace carb parts.
Change something in the exhaust.

If you're lucky, or the problem is a known, the shotgun approach can work.

But, trying to convey stimulus/reaction diagnostic procedures, and getting interactive postings of results, sometimes doesn't happen. Same with posting the final outcome, closing the thread.

Entry-level mechaniching is simply remove/replace parts. A daunting task in itself.

Understanding the "theory of operation", and performing mysterious diagnostics is the next level. A difficult hurdle for some to comprehend. Even more difficult to explain the whys and howcomes...
