I will be doing a bunch of work on my front end in the near future and thought I might replace my stock two piece rubber brake line s with a new single stainless line. Which leads me to several questions.
1. Know of a good source?
2. What's a good length for my stock 77D
I have researched a fair amount and see a lot of different lengths.
3. 10mm banjos, 20-30 degree head angles both ends?
Gimme your thoughts, I'm in a shopping mood! :)
Thanks Bob

One place that comes to mind is:
https://www.vintagebrake.com/

Michael "Mercury" Morse is a big fan of the 650s and sells lots of parts for them and is the go to guy for any brake parts for just about anything. When I had a question on brakes for my Sportsters he was the guy I asked and as a result I have a better front brake than the factory supplied and this was with using all OEM parts!

banggood!! i got one; its great! You can get a 10 pk of copper crush washers for .99 too. I also have a 77D and the length is good. 90 CM is about right.

I know Robinc has one and I am sure others as well. I added Vesrah sintered brake pads along with the rebuild of the M/C and caliper (thanks littlebill) and I can stop with 1 finger.

Carefull with the banggood ones. Mine has bright red shrink at the banjos. Took 3 weeks frim a far off land. But its a good peice.

Hey Bob, I agree with Mackels comments. 1 finger braking was a real surprise. And with angus67. He's right, it does take some time to get here. Mine did not have the red shrink wrap, must have been a different batch. Bought mine almost a year ago I think.
Might as well order more than one, you will have another project.
Will post a pic in my thread tonight of the clamp I used.

I wouldn't want to buy an $8.00 SS braided Brake Line............Even if it was good and safe, someone has had to pay to keep the price so low........... yet still a profit for someone!!!!

Better alternative.........http://www.slingshotcycles.com/XS650_c_76.html........
He's a member as well

If I worried about stuff like that, I wouldn't pay my taxes. It's not my job to worry about that. That's for the people my taxes pay. But wait .... what? .... are you saying they're not doing their job? .... paying my taxes is a waste? ....

I will continue to buy these, even though they may be made by 12 year olds. All I can hope for is they're not being exploited sexually (and filmed for internet posting) while they're doing it. I went through all this, or something much the same, while I was still working. My union told us not to shop at certain stores because they weren't union or the buildings weren't erected by union labor. I didn't comply, but I'm sure many members did. Still, it wasn't anywhere near enough to make any difference. So, I still shop at Walmart and probably always will.

Those that have used the banggood.
Did it require a quarter twist to get the banjo to line up?

IMG_0825.JPG See what i mean about the red? I went super cheap on this bike because the guy that signed it over to me to get better assistance is suppose to come back for it. Its been a yeay without hearing from him.
I usually by goodridge lines.

Hmmm weekendrider, don't remember a problem installing at all, but this was my first. Maybe? Sorry that was last fall but I think it went together pretty slick. Although, my memory is good, it's just short. Remembering what I had for breakfast anymore.can be a challenge.

They offer two varieties, one with the fittings in the same plane, one with them at 90° to each other. The 2nd is perfect for the stock MC, and is the one in the above link. The 1st is what you'd want for a different than stock MC with the hose mount on the front.

I just ordered one from MMM at Vintage Brake / 650 central yesterday. I think it cost in the neighborhood of $60 including both banjos. I tried calling several times and kept getting the answering machine. Never left a message but he called me back when he was available. He took the time to ask about my setup. Offered his opinions and several options since I am rebuilding my entire brake setup. I like the personal aspect of dealing with him. His years of experience and knowledge give me the confidence that what I ordered will be spot on.
**edit.... I just looked at my receipt and he is sending a 34" line with 15&35 degree banjos. I am running #10 tracker bars with stock risers

Used a pair of the bang r good lines on the RSV with other upgrades, ran two lines to the MC with a bang r good dual hole banjo bolt. I got that bike from "begging it to Pulleeze stop" to a 2 finger wonder. I can easily get controlled front tire chirping. Bike weighs 900 pounds!! Well over half a ton with me on it.... 2 fingers is enough bring it to a howling stop, amazing.
Went from 2 piston calipers to 4 piston went from a 5/8 MC to a 14mm, went from rubber lines to teflon. Changed to an adjustable lever on the MC. many other tire and suspension changes. Got that pig acting like a silk purse.

Thank you all for your input. I have much to think about. Have not yet made a decision,
but all of suggestions were very helpful.
Bob

You only need an angle on the bottom fitting at the caliper (to clear the bleed nipple), the top fitting at the MC can be straight. But, a small angle up there won't hurt either. I have a straight fitting on the top of mine and it works fine .....

Banggood? For brake hose?

Not sure I'd go cheap on life-safety stuff. While I have had good luck with some import stuff (foot pegs, valve covers, headlight brackets) from far away lands, I would not bet my life on their long term or short term quality. China exporters managed to f'up drywall a few years ago. How the hell can you f'up drywall??? Then there was the dog food, then the lead paint on kids toys, then the diethylene glycol in the toothpaste, etc. Here's a rather scary article on our import dependence on Chinese foodstuffs...

sigh; they don't need nukes...

Back to brake hose... We used to have an indy shop here in Tucson doing radiator repair and making custom DOT lines. $25-30 each, your choice of color - although you often had to settle for the DOT labelled hose colors that he had in stock. After he made up each one his DOT license required he test each piece. He had a hydraulic tester that required annual certification, hooked up the hose, and it had to hold 4000 psi (yes, 4000!) for 2 minutes. I had him make several hoses for me over the last couple years. Shame he retired. Once he bailed, our local Beemer dealer is (AFAIK) the only close source. Will be seeing them next week for some hoses on the XS.

In the search for truth, I typed in DOT in the search engine on that site: got a bunch of hits: polka dots, dot matrix, red dot laser, dot diodes, dot candy...

I used Russel SS brake line available in various length with threaded fittings so you can choose what ever ends you want, straight, 90 degree, 33 degree as well as various banjo ID fittings. Stopping is a priority so for me I used Harley front brake, Willwood rear brake and Russel SS lines all around. Buyit once lasts forever and never have to think about it or worry. Good luck!
