Junkyard ignition - TCI replacement

So just wire it as you stated above and go?

So far it's looking that way. One of his carbs started pissing gas all over so we had to shut it down before I had a change to check it out thoroughly (timing, dwell and whatnot). We fired it up several times before that happened and it kicked to life easily each time.

Thanks. I ordered a J120, lol.

Hey I have an idea, you could make a moving plate for the pick ups and have it connected via cable to a LH "twist grip"! Then you could set your own advance, wonder if that's ever been done before??

Or like the lever on the steering column of this truck?

A choke cable, pull to start and push to run. So, are we seeing a pointless ignition for somewhere around $50, new parts, AND MAINTENANCE FREE? Somebody, please do this, I'm a year or more away from having the time to figure it out.

Scott

Kick only, leave the key in it, with advance on full.
The would be thief will be the guy laying there screaming with a broken ankle. His co-conspirators will be the guys rolling around laughing at him.

Top info Mr. Riggs.

Don't buy the first one you see guys, prices vary wildly based on manufacturer. DYE60 seems to be cheapest so far from my 5 min perusal of one company's stock.

No surprise--I did a quick search for the DYE-620 and found prices to vary considerably. You can buy it brand new at Rock Auto for 27.95, and yet I saw someone selling it on ebay for $49.
I love this forum! It's one thing to have folks fill us in with information like this, but to have all the different part numbers too... thanks much to you, MrRiggs!

It would seem the voltage from the magnetic pickups would increase as rpm increased. Voltage at 2500 rpm would be much higher than at idle or cranking speed . Perhaps a control signal for a relay to select the advanced coil. 2M seems to have a handle on the voltages involved in the trigger circuit. See his led timing circuit for tci pickups for a starting point.
