Eliminate the battery '73 TX650 Flat Tracker

Probably would be a problem at Springfield TT for someone faster than me. My purpose for this race was to make it through and not get any air off the jump. Also as slow as I am I really don't think that will be a problem for me but if someone is wanting to be competitive they might want to look more in to that from someone that has ridden it more than twice.

Yeah, I am actually with Fred. Also forgot about the damned Morris Magneto... I've apparently been gone too long. If you are dead set in doing a 100% battery free motor AND this is a 100% race bike (no headlight, tail light or anything else) I would absolutely do the Magneto. Not only could you ditch the battery, you could also ditch all of the weight from the charging system!! WIN WIN

Let's see some pics of the bike or it doesn't exist!
Not cleaned up from the races yet but here it is.

Since it IS in fact just a race bike. IF it were me, if I were dead set on ditching the battery, if my engine wasn't rephased and it was racing purposes... I would probably go the Morris Mag in the links I posted before. That way on a race bike, you're literally capable of ditching both the battery AND the charging system this way. No need for a capacitor, hell, there wouldn't even be any wiring..... Except, for a handlebar kill switch for grounding it out.

The only downside that I see in your case would be that the magneto would stick out of the left side of the cam. If you wiped out on your left side, it may very well take the magneto with it, it may not. I don't really know.

I've got the electrix world cdi on my xs650 and love it. Ignition only no charging system. From England and I think Hoos sells them now about 350 bucks, First kick starting and no problems in the three yrs. I've had mine.

Plowboy you beat me to the post. The Powerdynamo is a good setup , but if you don't need to charge a battery why lug an alternator around?
Unless you find the extra flywheel weight an advantage I suppose.
I have no experience with the Electrex World CDI but here is the link

Mainly, he wants to lose the battery, not the charging.

Found the problem from last weekend. Now to order new ones and see if the total loss keeps me going.

For racing we have been using the :
HRS stk-465 Racing ignitions $345.00 YES Race only no lighting coil, similar to the old ARD and PVL
, rock sold and very easy install.
Email me at gary@hoosracing.com

Ok, went total loss
now no matter what I do I only get spark/fire on one side. I plug in one side of the points and get spark no matter which way I plug in one side I get spark, but plug both in and only one will get spark/fire.
