like the header sez, that's where the good news ends.
It's still a Yamaha twin. A 1964 YL1 twin Jet 100.
Rolling chassis & engine still together, with all the stripped off parts in boxes.
My son & I jumper-wired a car battery to it's reassembled electrics, and it's OK for sparks.
Then we did a Q&D carb clean, connected up a pony tank of new gas and started kicking.
Got it as far as a few pops and blue smoke before we quit but we are hopeful.
I'm sure I can get a Clymer's manual for the bike but what I can't find via an E-search
is a TwinJet or perhaps a Yamaha twin 2-stroke forum..
Is there anyone on this list who could kindly point one out for me?

Fred good on ya and your son for taking this on.
This link will get you a free pdf parts list.
I've been to the site and it is OK. No buggy virus etc.
When I track down a service manual download I'll post.

Hi WER,
thanks for that link, it will be most helpful and it may even help me to discover how the Yamaha parts numbering system works.
looking forward to seeing a shop manual too.

Hi Fred: a buddy of mine here in Windsor has at least two Twin Jets including a parts bike.
Hi
I'll ask him if he has a manual.

Pete

Fred I found a couple of sites but they require you to join to download. I didn't.

Hi WER,
I found a Yamaha YL1 service manual on line that I downloaded.
Didn't have to join anything either. Just had to pay them US$14.95.
Having a shop manual and a parts list should help me avoid the usual rebuild pitfalls.
Thanks for your efforts.

Fred,
Very cool purchase !
This past year I have been having a love affair with old 2-strokes.
Picked up a '75 RD350 barn find most recently, and am gradually cleaning it up.
How'bout some pictures of your find ?

:twocents: While often tempted, I avoid old two strokes like the plague, because they ALWAYS need new crank seals. I'll get the hots for one, look it over real good, then force myself to answer this question; do I really want to pull and completely strip this engine, split the cases and install new seals? So far I've come up with the sane answer every time.
