Pamco and welding

Just replaced tci ignition with pamco e advance kit. Any precations when welding?

Hi Jaydela,
gas welding:- Don't cook the plastic parts, eh?
Any kinda electric welding:- as with any other vehicle, make sure the return current don't pass through a rotating part lest it weld the balls/rollers to the races.
And the best way to ensure the return current don't pass through anything electronic and perhaps cause damage is to disconnect or remove the electronic part.

It's not just the very high welding current that can destroy electronics. It's also the very strong magnetic field created by the current that can "shake" the electronics to the molecular level. Disconnecting the electronics is not enough. Remove all electronics from the bike when welding. Now, some highly experienced people will join this thread and state that they have been welding for 50 years and never had a problem. Sure. Like my buddy whose hobby was Russian Roulette. Haven't heard from him lately.

All things i will consider. Thanks

Just dont want to make same mistake i did late last summer.....

Was out riding when one of liscence plate mounts cracked. Stopped by a nearby buddys house for a quick weld. Did not take the necessary precautions and believe that killed my tci box.

Been fighting a midrange misfire since about that time. Didnt connect the dots until recently, as relentless carb work did not improve symptom. Only cured after pamco.

Hi Jaydela,
buddy must have used his candy-ass new MIG or TIG to endanger your bike's TCI.
If you had a buddy as old as me he'd have used his oxy-acetylene rig because his buzzbox woulda blown holes in that thin material .
And while an oxy-acetylene rig has zero electronic interference most likely it's flame would have lit your back tire on fire.
Sometimes you can't win.

Yeah that sounds like near bullet proof electronics killer the taillight is isolated from the frame by rubber if he ground clamped anywhere on the frame the ground wires would have been the current path every electronic device aboard would have gotten a healthy dose of current and voltage via pumped up grounds.
