DIY Suicide clutch with Jockey shifter

The only foot control I have is the rear brake, and I don't really use it all that much to be honest. I have thought about using a proportioning valve to make the hand control operate both brakes, but I'm not sure the master cylinder has enough volume to do the job.
 
Angus, you think so? The only problem with it that I can see is using throttle and clutch with the same hand. And without someone with experience riding like that, it doesn't seem possible.
 
Ya its a foot clutch but the spring is just so there is no problems with the return

I have not tried to run it w/o the spring and luckily I havent fallen over yet but trying to take off at the top of a hill sucks
 
No foot controls, Put the clutch on the jockey shift. Rear brake on left bars where clutch was. Front brake and throttle stay put.

its pretty easy to stop and only put one foot down. If you stop in a rut, you just shift into neutral and put both feet down. I am usually in neutral anyways at lights. Some people say you should be in first with the clutch held in, but you need ninja like reflexes and super human senses to escape anyone who might rear-end you anyways.
 
sooooo what keeps a guy from removing the adjuster screw and replacing it with a bolt of the same size diameter and threads, just longer? add a coupling nut to this bolt to attach the lever to and for the adjustment. that way you arnt changing anything permanently with drilling or welding so you can switch back if its ever desired. its very similar to the xs650choppers method previously mentioned

I'm doing this right now. The stock threads are M8x1.25 so I just got a bolt and threaded it in with a jam nut. Also welded a nut to a wrench to use as a Lever. The only issue I'm finding is you can't swing the wrench around as it hits the stator portion of the cover so it takes a few tries to get the bolt threaded in and have everything where I need it. My bike isn't running yet so I've only tried this out at my kitchen table. If this doesn't work out too well then I'll probably get a coupling nut and drill the threads out of it and then just put the M8 bolt though the center and thread it into the helical gear on the stock clutch linkage. Basically the same as the xs650 chopper one except I'll drill out the coupling nut instead of the helical gear. This way I could put it back to stock with relative ease. Edit* - and weld the drilled out coupling nut to the helical gear.

The wrench with the nut welded to it will go where the red Arrow is pointing. Then I'll use that jam nut to keep it in place

i tried that. didnt work. the bolt would unthread no matter how tight i would get the jam nut.
So I got a m8 coupling nut, put an m8 bolt thru it (without drilling out the threads) and threaded the end thru the helical gear. This bolt works as the clutch adjuster as it pushes against the ball bearing. Then I welded the coupling nut to the helical gear to keep it from unscrewing. Then I put a box end wrench on the outside end of the coupling bolt (like youre doing) and welded that. It works great. I did change the clutch return spring with a tougher spring for more resistance. Plus, it would be super easy to convert back to normal if I need to. But ive been riding it all summer and havent wanted to change back yet. Let me know if this didnt make sense. or if you want to see some pictures. But, in my opinion, this is the easiest and cleanest diy to convert it to foot clutch

It's funny you say this as I just got back from picking up a wrench that fits on my coupling nut! Please see attached pic and let me know what you think. I haven't welded the coupling nut or the wrench yet. Just mocking it up. I drilled out the coupling nut just big enough for the M8 bolt to fit though. ps - thanks for the feedback!

thats pretty mcuh the same set up that i have. except i didnt drill out the coupling nut and i dont have the other "normal" nut cause my bolt was a little too short. But I havent has an issue with the clutch coming out of adjustment. I dont see why yours wouldnt work. One thing that I have noticed is a little slop between the helical gear and the whole side cover. Probably from the longer moment arm. So just make sure the helical is on there good.
Ill take a picture of my set up when I get home from work today

sounds good. I ended up running a die down a longer bolt to get one with the length that I needed. Most of them over about 1" long just have the long unthreaded "shoulder" on them so you can't run a nut all the way up to the head like I have. Running a die down it allows you to use whatever length bolt you need and you can still put a jam nut on it.

OW...I bet you go through alot of burn cream with your left foot that close to that much Red hot exhaust pipe, how about a shield on that closest pipe to protect your leg eh ?
