Ohh gggGary......

LOL I remember one time My dad was moving our New horsie's grain pan and she wheeled around and bit him on the cheek of the ass Really hard.... she got slapped around for that, and never bit again... but dad's ass was really hurt you could see the teeth marks and his whole cheek was black and blue .... hehehhehe he dropped his pants right there in the horse pin !!!! LOL.... really glad it wasn't me !
she was new to humans at the time we had her about 3 days and was about 8months to a year old.... already a big horse by horse standards
"gentle breaking" is the only way to go.... but it takes time and patiences !
.....personally....I'ed rather ride a bike than a horse.... a bike goes where you point it.... not necessarily so for a horse ! and the brakes are better on a bike too !!!!! LOL:laughing:
Bob......

Horses have great brakes. But man, learning to apply them, that's a WHOLE nuther story! Allison's grampa would get a car load of horses shipped from Texas to his farm here in Baraboo and break them to use and sell. Well before her time though.

Come equipped with reverse and they can turn quicker too. You won't find it so on a pleasure horse or trail rental pony.
Settle in on a good ropin or cuttin pony you better have your "A" game on or expect to meet mother earth up close and personal.

EDIT: When I said trail pony I was commenting on the dude ranch/ resort rental. Not trail competition which gggGary's little bride is involved in. While I'm sure gggGary knew what I meant, others who's closest encounter would be to pass some in a pasture/paddock while driving by might not know.

lol Yes I have heard "Gentle broke" referred to as "Barely Broke" before !!!! and it's purty descriptive ! especially on cold crisp spring mornings with a bit of frost on the ground and the horse's eyes have the sparkle of LETS PLAY !!!!! with the springing step head held high and tail up in the air ...... and you have the bridle in your hand and it's a big game !!!!!! ....
I found the answer to that though I told the horse I'm not going to chase you ! if you want to go, come here !.... she didn't come, so we didn't go for a ride..... the next day I hung the bridle back up and headed out of the pin, and she came over and nuzzled me like ok,ok I'm sorry !
I went back and got the bridle and she put her head in it ! all by her self ! .... she was a Pill on cold mornings ! down right Ornery !
but a pleasure to have around no doubt !
...... we discovered a game that she Loved.... take a big cardboard box and bang on it and she would explode into a run and snort looking around...... I guess it scared her the first time but after we left the cardboard box in her pin and she got courage enough to approach it
that box was ok after that..... it had bite marks all over it and all that but if I grabbed that box boy the ruckus was about to take place and she loved it ! ....LOL a 1500 lb animal at play is hilarious to watch !
.....
