So, I had to go to Schmall Schmart today in Madison, I was in my cage. On my way in, I see this guy walking towards the parking lot cars reach down and grab a handful of mulch. I seem him kinda stalling and looking around. I am watching him in my periphery and he waited for me to get inside the building. I turn back and he's gone, but the handful of mulch is sitting on the seat of the bike. (I think it was a Harley). I looked hoping to see a dude who would have looked like a Harley guy to get his attention, but I didn't see anyone fitting the mold.

I didn't say anything to the guy, and I felt like I should have. I was going to clean it off when I left as the bike was still there, but I didn't want to have to explain why I am the one who's cleaning off the mulch off the bike. I am not a big guy and I'd say not very intimidating. In the grand scheme of things, mulch on the seat is not that big of a deal. Had he been stuffing it in the air filter, that would have been a different story.

I don't know if that biker had PO'd the driver or if there was any history between the two. I still feel like I was obligated to say something and I did not.
Thoughts....

Your first problem was going to "Schmall Schmart". :D I wouldn't have gotten involved in it either, but because it was none of my business and is non-destructive and is actually kind of funny. The reason you did the right thing is your problem, and that makes you feel like a coward. You should go to a fighting gym or something and learn how to take a punch in the nose :) Get some confidence. You know, little guys can intimidate big guys, because nobody really wants to fight. But you have to be on the right side and it has to be worth it, not something like this.

No need to get in a fight over something like that..... but do say something ! it was non destructive .....could'a been much worse....
like just folding the kickstand and letting it fall ... that does a bunch of damage !
more than likely the guy had a history with the owner... when people see something going on that's bad and destructive and do not do anything about it THEY are as guilty as the perpetrators of the crime ! 4 times in my life I have witnessed shoplifting..and each time I told a employee or manager ,...one time I confronted the person at the register and asked if he was going to pay for the cigarettes he stuffed in his pocket ?
he said Oh yah .... these too. and gave me a go to hell look.... I expected him to be waiting outside for me but it's a good thing he wasn't because that sort of thing pisses me off real good ! I'm too slow to anger most of the time, but when stuff like that goes on I get hot fast.
.....
anywhere thievery is allowed it will take place, Wal-Mart refused to prosecute shoplifting and their losses skyrocketed into the hundreds of thousands for the ONE store per year.... they finally had to start procircuit shop lifters again or go broke !
My wife worked for walmart for 20 years she said it was common to be stocking the shelves and find empty packages ....all the time !
Allowing that stuff to go on is YOUR responsibility if you allow it to happen it will continue if you say something or do something about it
then the chances of it continuing on is lessoned !
I'm not saying take a baseball bat to the head of a Kid that just stuffed a candy bar in his pocket.... I'm saying tell the manager !
if a guy slashes a tire on a car your parked next to are you going to say something ? You should be dialing 911 on your cell phone !
not looking the other way..... your car may be tomorrows entertainment !
a hand full of dirt on the seat of a bike is just the precursor.... he got away with it he'll do it again.... next time probably worse.
just my opinion ..... everyone has one !

Hi Mackels,
don't you have a cell-phone? Don't it take photos?
Merely popping a flashgun at some teen vandals in my back yard got me a grovelling apology from their parents.

I have a few strictly personal litmus tests for involvement, Mackels. 1. Is someone is taking bodily injury? If able to stop it, do so. If unable to stop it, call 911, announce that cops are on the way, and start taking pics. 2. Is a nonviolent crime (theft, vandalism, etc.) is in progress? Snap pics if possible and report it, it's not worth direct confrontation. 3. If the situation doesn't involve any of the above conditions, don't get sucked into some fool's bullshit drama; ignore it.

Turns out, the guy was parked in a no parking zone next to a handicapped parking spot. So I guess it was that guys way of sending a message. I was just curious to see what others would do.

True story, We have a Handicap space nazi in town He is handicap and I get what he does. This guy rides a Sportster, been a biker for at least 30 years now and it ain't easy for him. Local store pushed a mountain of snow into one of the handicap spaces in the lot. I had a "monster truck" and parked it " up the mountain" in the handicap space. When I came out I had a DIY handicap "ticket". LOL Yeah park in handicap areas, expect cowboy justice.

can relate , been tempted many times myself , have a handicap permit which only use if the legs are playing up , many times seen non handicapped aseholes using the spaces for convinence , being a semi non violent person its been touch and go a few times not to have a few words etc with these dickheads so a bit of mulch on a seat seems a fairly diplomatic wale up call

When my Father was old and had a handicap permit, he made sure his car had the permit where it could be seen. There were flyers they could get stating, "This space is for handicapped people" .....he would use them when ever he saw a car not displaying the permit parked in the space........Would go through a few as well................surprising how many people will steal those spots...........and the excuses........... no one was parked there...............i was only a couple of min.

Years ago I used to always park on the sidewalk at the Mall in Redding,ca. because they had no motorcycle parking and parking was at a premium..... and unless you wanted to walk 3/4 of a mile to the far end you parked your bike on the sidewalk, out of the way near the entrance.
....this was acceptable back then and no one complained.... also the painted triangles at the end of the row of parking places was a favorite of mine.....
but I wonder is this done any more ? I have seen harleys parked smack dab in the center of the sidewalk where everyone had to walk around them and squeeze by.(..jerks !) .....but not very often....
I've noticed up at Walmart that is not being done any more and the bike riders are using up car spaces instead
many places have a bike parked on the sidewalk next to the building because the guy works there.... or it's just more convenient at the time.
but when this is done they bikes are almost always out of the way ...and not impeding foot traffic.
what's your views on this ?
should you always park where cars park or park where you can ?
