Had a older gentleman stop by my house on Saturday. I thought he was stopping to check out the Goldwing I have out for sale, turns out he was there to offer me a chance to buy his 80 XS less than 6k on the clock he is original owner. Been stored in his heated garage for 12 - 15 years says it still has the original tires on it. Also has a lightly wrecked parts bike same model/year. So i asked him what he wanted to get for them, he comes back with, do you think $300.00 is to much. I almost fell down LOL. I should pick it up this Wednesday or Thursday. Hoping its half as nice as he claims. I almost feel bad getting them this cheap, but hey it was his price. I will post pics when i get them.

DEAL..........hope the missing 20 years of storage/riding was not outside.
Congrats on this once in a lifetime bargain.

No doubt! You hear these kind of stories, but somehow I usually wind up being the one who overpaid for something that turned out to be less than what was promised!
Congratulations! And we want pictures!

Check out the excellent guide in the Tech section for long-stored bikes and treat those tires like they're concrete now.

$300 for a bike and a parts bike?! I'd jump on that deal! I ,along with the other followers of this thread, eagerly await the pics of your find. Course, I am partial to SG's....

Once in a lifetime deal. I picked up a 1971 xs1b low mileage that sat in a shed fore twenty years. Pamco. Off and running with boxes of othe xs parts for $3000

He is the original owner and claims its never seen rain and was never left out side. He said its not perfect and might have some oxidation on the cases from sitting so long, but is in better than average condition

I will post pics as soon as i have them home.

My 1980 came to me for $0 from a college work study that I worked with . He and his roommate bought it from another college buddy for $40 about three years prior in non running condition with some crash damage. After three years of them fixing the damage and attempting to get it running on and off with lack of tools and knowledge they gave up when it was time to move away and asked me if I wanted it. It came in a somewhat disassembled state and lots of extra parts in a box. Three hours later I was on the road.

I did help him out over the prior three years with various vehicle issues and got his moped fixed up a couple times too, so I didn't feel too guilty.

I got the New XS home last evening Its an 81, with 6330 original miles Covered with a nice thick coat of dust, I did a little spot cleaning on some of the chrome it looks like 99% will clean up very nicely. Fuel tank is spotless inside. I'm quit pleased side.

I must say this is one of the nicest original bikes I've ever bought. It will be a great joy to ride her down the road again. Plans are to flush the front brake system, intall new battery, change the oil and clean the filter, drain the old fuel from the tank (which looks like new inside). Put a little oil in the cylinders and try to fire her up. If she runs well I'll put some seafoam in the fuel and let it clean the carbs if not I'll pull the carbs and put them in the ultra sonic cleaner. As good as the tank looks I think it might run well as is. After i get her running proper she will get a new pair of shoe's anlnog with a good bath and some polishing. I have promised the PO a final ride on her when she's all done.

Drop a float bowl with the carbs still installed and have a look inside. That will tell you if the carbs need cleaning before attempting to start it. Don't try to start it without doing this first. If the carbs are all gummed up inside, attempting a start will suck shit through them and plug things up even worse. You seem to have a plan for doing everything else right. Do this right too.

Yeah that, also good to remove the tank and petcock. Slosh some sacrificial fuel in the tank and drain until clean, clean the petcock. install new lines and a fuel filter/s. Crap left in the tank, petcock and lines will be entering clean carburetors......... no more clean carburetors.

Yea all good advise. I washed the dirt and dust off this evening, turned the petcock to prime and gas is flowing out the air filter housing. Needles aren't sealing or floats are stuck open, so I have to pull the carbs. She cleaned up nice can't wait to
