Who Rode Today?

Pete.....................a trip of 3500 kms is a lot of riding, as is 9.5 hours in one day.Good thing you're still just a a youngster:)
I used to ride my bike (XS500C) to the Sandbanks beach near Picton..................beautiful beach.

I'm sure you saw some real fine scenery through NY, VT, NH. I did a similar trip with 2 buddies, all of us on bikes, back in the 1970s. We hit NY, VT, NH and Maine. Of course we got rained on as well. 350 kms/day is a comfortable pace for sure.

Fort Malden...................some real history in that area. General Brock led the British/Canadian troops across the river and captured Detroit back in 1812. We only kept Detroit for a year. Decided we better give Detroit back to the Americans, or
they might get upset.:D However, by 1814, the Americans were still being obnoxious, so we went down to Washington and burnt down the Whitehouse, just to let them know not to mess with Canadians. I'm glad we get along much better these days!

Sadly - probably no riding this weekend. Ripping out a bathroom and replacing an entry door. I also have to clear out the downstairs for flooring to be delivered. If I'm lucky I'll run out for an hour.

Poor Pete - you need to live a little!!!

RG - yup, it was quite a ride indeed (I did a 530 km run at each end of the trip from Peterborough to Windsor) but the ST is amazingly good at chewing up miles/km and it is so effortless. The level of noise and vibration is just about the same at 130 km/hr as it is at 30 km/hr. (Not that I ever have run the ST up to 130 km/hr - because that would be 30 km/hr over the speed limit). My Scala Rider Bluetooth phone and iTunes music system in my helmet, coupled with nearly 30 litres of fuel and over 50 MPIG - makes it very easy to sprint across the province in pretty short order.

Yeah....1812.....interesting stuff that! Oddly, it is much better known over here than across the river. ;)

Gawd!
What a dull boring life I must lead.
This afternoon's big adventure is a ride across town to Lee Valley Tools to buy my Bro-in-law a gift to get to the UK by his birthday.
Which, to that Hardnosed Brit's chagrin, is on the Fourth of July.

FRED: I just sent you a PM with a graphic which your B-I-L might enjoy....

It was a sunny crisp fall day here in Calgary. Temperature was 16 C, so I went out on the bike for a short 25 km ride. The air was so fresh and my bike ran so nicely, it was just a perfect little ride. Its just about the end of the riding season, so this might be my last ride for about 6 months:(

I took the wheels off my ST1300 on Tuesday and took them to London, ON (about 400 km round trip) in my wife’s SUV to have new tires installed. That was the day I spent with RobinC and while the tires were being mounted, we drove up to XS650 Direct for a few items (Stratford is only about 65 km from London). Today was another beautiful fall day - about 21C or maybe more, so I headed out to the DCW to put the wheels back on the ST and THATS when I noticed that the rear wheel had been installed “backwards” (the direction of rotation was incorrect). Dammit.

Soooo...I got to take the ST back up to London to have that error rectified. Overall, it was a beautiful day for a ride and so all was not lost. Our winter is far milder that RGs in Calgary and it arrives much later, so I expect we’ll have at least 2-4 more weeks of riding or maybe even more.

Fall colors real late this year. Mostly green still. What colors there are are a bit drab. Nothing beats swooping around the eastern rain forests enveloped in yellow, red, and green.

Well, for me, it's been exactly 20 years since I rode my XS, but at least I'm back to planning on it once again. Deciding where to start has occupied a lot of my time since I sold my 06 Yamaha a month ago. So much work to do over the winter. I guess I'll start a journal.

I rand a quick errand on the bike yesterday partly to see if I wanted to take a longer ride. Temps were okay, but the sky was ugly and getting uglier in the direction I was headed so I decided to pass.

It was low 60's for temperature and I got to thinking about Spring vs. Fall. In the Spring, low 60's is "WooHoo!, It's Riding Weather!!!". In the Fall it's "Dang, it's getting too cold to ride."

For no reason other than I can, I want to see 9000 miles roll over on the FJ before I put it up for the Winter. I'm a bit shy of 8600 at the moment, so I need to bundle up and hit the road. Should have 2-3 more weeks before it starts getting below 50 for a high on a regular basis.

Summer weather here too, which is amazing. Out on the XS's regularly, and took the FJR to the Catskills yesterday, to my favorite spot, high up in the Windham Mountain Range, overlooking the Durham Valley. I parked the bike and noticed that the Odo said 77,777. A good number.

The Sandia Crest in Albuquerque had a few Aspen.

The Rio Grande river basin between Sante Fe and CO. actually had a better "show" with the cottonwoods.

The most colorful thing was happening in Albuquerque.

While we have all the trappings of modern day life, electricity to charge various gizmos and see by, heat, and netflix while lounging on the bed eating stick bologna, cheese and crackers.

It is still easy to figure out fall has fallen when you wake up and it is 37 degrees outside of the humble abode.

Hopefully, colors will have progressed some more by next weekend and we can find them in AR. on the west side.

October 20, and I'm still riding 25 miles round trip to the diner for breakfast every morning, rain or shine. McDonalds almost every night for cookies and coffee after the rest of the household goes to bed. I broke out the long johns, wool socks and winter boots, I have the ski-bibs ready to go. If this is global warming, then leave it alone. I'll be riding until the salt hits the road.

I was out buzzing around this morning. Morning lows of 65 degrees, but our highs are sill almost 100 degrees!!! WTH? All you guys that live where there are fall colors, we need pictures man! I live in the desert. We have two seasons, brown and kinda green. We don't get fall colors here.

Bob, you need to come down here and go up Mt. Lemon for fall colors. Last WE was about as good as it gets. For around here anyway...It's a good bike road too..I've done it many times....Or go east on 60 to "Top of the World"....

Mount Lemon is on my bucket list for sure.
Top of the world, I am very familiar with. I used to pass through there on a weekly basis when I was a young man working for the copper mines in Globe! A beautiful part of the world for sure!

Been out looking for fall colours almost every day lately Bob. Everywhere I go still green like summer. Just heard a report that fall colours are delayed by 2-3 weeks this year and may not be as spectacular due to an unusually dry August and September.
Bummer.

Bumper crop of Walnuts on some roads though!
