Here's a recent "family portrait" of the three that reside in my garage. Left to right: 1981 SH - acquired June of 2017 - moderate restoration / refresh; 1980 SG - acquired January of 2010 - fairly extensive restoration / refresh / modification; and finally, the one that started this obsession - 1981 H - acquired new in January of 1982.

rhkansas it looks like you already did your seat mod on the new one?
Yes, actually that saddle is the first "proof of concept" one that used the closed cell foundation / rebond body / lux open cell cover layer. It was set up to still be usable to carry a passenger. The saddles on my other two have been taken a little further with in increase in depth of the back bolster and are basically solo saddles. All sit basically the same with a firm bowl shaped support under the pelvis - much more comfortable for long stretches. I rode the bike 12 miles home when I bought it, and was reminded by my lower end just how uncomfortable and ergonomically incorrect the original special saddle was. At some point, Ill get to feeling ambitious and post my saddle modification as a thread on the forum..

I will look forward to that rhkansas. The seat on "The SG" needs new foam badly.

I've only been to Kansas once, on a long trip across country with my brother in about 2010. The cruise across the state on Rt. 70 was rather monotonous, as our schedule didn't allow for stops other than for gas, but there was a bit of magic about that stretch of highway, with roots deep in my memory. Mostly visual images of corn and fences.

I half-expected at any moment a storm would come up,

....and we would be transported to some other place.

I must have fallen asleep in the passenger seat.

Nice work! I can’t wait to see how this comes out. We would love to know more details and photos of your build!

Yes, the mascot of the grouse mouse haha

Rear seat is a xr750 replica style fiberglass item. Mounted it with some m6 bolts from underneath, nothing special but had to shorten the rear hoop a fair bit. You can see it properly in this clip

Nicely done! I like the details incorporated into your build. Headlight idea was great! What front fork/ wheel/speedometer combination are you using? Speedo and turn signals are a very nice clean touch.

I have left the side covers with the aqua blast finish... i think it breaks up the polished and chrome ! . The paint on the tank has worked out very well.....
