Looking for a good/best Reg/Rec for my PMA. Currently using one from HHB , unbranded Chinese type. My volt meter occasionally gets into the 15 V range and makes me nervous. Perhaps I will need to change my LED lights to older bulb type to use more power. I'm using an OME Banshee rotor and and OME Honda stator , so I would rather have a "real" Reg/Rec. Thanks.

There's at least one adjustable regulator on ebay. Combine it with the ol' Radioshack rec project or something. I doubt different lights would drag it down significantly. If it did, it wouldn't be well regulated, plus the generator can probably supply enough current to make that hard to do.

Do a search for shunt reg/rectifier on this site. Get a genuine part not a knock off. I have had good service out of used genuine Yamaha reg /rectifiers from LC/RD/RZ 350's.

A shunt regulator/rectifier operates the alternator at maximum current output and controls the bike’s DC voltage by sending the excess current to ground. This heats up the alternator & can shorted its life.

A series regulator/rectifier allows the alternator AC voltage to vary and control’s the bike’s DC voltage by providing only enough current to get the correct voltage. This makes for a cooler alternator.

Search for “series regulator” for more info. New ones are expensive but there are some good used one available.

Thanks, I'm on the case...........

Following this thread with interest. Surely there must be a high quality option for people using Banshee setups.

Denso SH532-12C. Been using one of these for many years without a problem.

Hey Kiwi---The SH532-12 has 6 wires. Three yellow going to the stator, then a red, green and black. I assume the red goes to positive, the black to negative ,but where does the green go ????

Partly right, red to positive, green to ground and the black is switched, from your ignition switch.

Is the SH775 still available or has it been replaced by the SH847? Roadster cycle only has the 847, which is pretty large. Anyone try the Mosfet Shindengen FH020AA?

Roadster charges $200 for the SH847.http://www.roadstercycle.com

I don’t know of anyone that sells the SH775, but the SH775 is used by several bike/atv/etc manufacturers.
Polaris is one that I am aware of.

Polaris part # 4012941 is the SH775. It retails for $180.
A few eBay retailers have it listed — you can confirm that they are correct per the video.
Some online dealers discount their OEM parts, so you can get it for less there.

The Roadster price for the SH847 is quite reasonable given the other stuff they include.
They may resume selling the SH775, so it might be worth checking their site one last time before ordering elsewhere.

Suzuki GS bikes have a common problem of the stators eventually failing because of the shunt voltage regulator.
A lot of GS owners use the Polaris part & are happy with the results.
Polaris was undoubtedly confused by the large number of rectifier/regulators they were selling until they found out about the reason.

After my after market stator burnt up and stranded me, I replaced it and the regulator with a Shindengen SH775. I had previously put one on my Suzuki 650 VStrom. Both have worked well. The 775 is fine for the XS650 as you can see from the attached compiled summaries.

These are my installation pics. I made the bracket out of aluminum plate.
