Right now I'm listening to...

Well, as you know well, you have a really fine turntable there. And its cool that you saved so many LP's.
I'm still buying them.
Playing vinyl discs while I work is one of the ways I fight off the winter blues, cuz the ritual of carefully pulling out the disc, wiping it with the moistened Discwasher, and then letting the tone arm drift slowly down into the groove is simply......well its groovy..:)

and the little lites in the receiver when you turn it on are kinda like Christmas.

...and the shiny aluminum knobs and throw switches just complete the whole fun ritual. For me its the Pioneer SX-780, the one that Rosie raves about so much.
Oh I understand the ritual but I can let it go for the convenience of not having to turn the record over every 15 mins.
(Especially when my hands are greasy..)
But I still prowl the thrift shops for vintage gear.
I picked up a really nicely preserved mid- 70's Sony turntable/receiver with the original speakers at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago for the princely sum of $8. :)

:D...I'm a Goodwill prowler, too. Nice buy on the Sony !
But locally, someone seems to snatch up the vintage electronics gear before it gets to the shelves.

Yeah, the greasy hands is a problem, and as you know, so are the soft touch buttons on the Phillips. I always wear nitrile gloves, with which those buttons don't respond properly..:laugh2:

Nice unit you got there, looks familiar.
So, you seem to have a flat "T" loop wire antenna dropping down off the back, but is that also a rabbit ears antenna peeking up from the back?

Well Yamadude, here is my simple funny "timemachine" sort of antenna lol.. Portland fm comes in great. I keep it on KINK FM 101.9 or KGON classic rock. Both are very important meaningful stations to me . I also plug in the cd player to dodge commercials. This is the SX680 reciever. I did replace two bulbs and vacuum it out about ten years ago. Can't believe it just keeps on enduring all the moves and early hard life it went thru !

Yeah, those loop antennas can be quite effective.
Planned obsolescence hadnt hit electronics back then, so many of these recievers are still quite operational, arent they.
In my garage, I'm using the JVC unit I bought when I went off to college in 1972. Had a party one night, got drunk, knocked it onto the floor, banged up, still works great. :)

Nice artwork, BTW.

Down in the workroom I use a vintage RadioShack amplified Flying Saucer antenna.

I tell my guests to steer clear of it, just in case.

I love all this vintage stereo gear, you wouldn't believe all the hours I spent in audio stores back in the seventies, drooling over high end stereo gear that my broke ass couldn't afford. As I got a little older I had a lot of friends ( young Air Force guys) Luke Air Force base is in my back yard, and they had th BEST stereo gear that they bought on base or overseas.
You know every nineteen year old guy needs a stereo that'll blow the windows out of your 500 square foot apartment! Haha!
You guys rock!

Being in the USAF Dorms of Nellis AFB (2 tours,3 different dorms), RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell and Hahn AB 1976-1983. Friday and Sat nights were Stereo War nights. Rock, Disco and later Rap were played loud and proud. Most other nights music was heard in the halls but at mellower levels. Modest to systems costing thousands of $$. Reel to Reels, 4 channels, monster amps of all major high end brands, cassette players that flipped the cassette at the end of the tape, 8 track players. CD players. Turn tables of all styles. Speakers from small bookshelf to 5ft tall, multi speakered towers. The list goes on and on...Between all that and working on the flightline of jet fighters, it's no wonder I have tinnitus.

My gosh "HiOnfi" would have never imagined ! Looks fun. And yes, 1980' was loud ! I remember more than one trip to the stereo shop in my friends 63 bug cuz his SX780 blew another speaker . Why go back to high school after lunch when there can be a pool party ? Lol ..

For me, Christmas Music is Jackson Browne.
This is a good one to watch on "full screen" mode on your PC,
with the big additional speakers plugged in.
And for us Northerners, to dream of springtime; after all, its just around the corner.
Our days are now getting longer.

That’s a great song and a cool video, thanks!

I love that stereo shop, that looks an awful lot like the kind of stores I hung out in in the seventies, only all those amps would’ve been hooked up to huge speakers so they could impress you.

Those are nice speakers!
Hey remember the old Bose 901 series?
They came with those pedestals to elevate them. Back then they cost about as much as a used car. My friend had a pair and the sound was unbelievable.

Yup, those 901s were the speaker to buy back then. I couldn't afford them :(
Maybe if I had spent less on drugs.......
