how long do the chains last without a tensioner. looks to be a lot of play/slop when riding, can see slack in the pics when the bike is stationary

No slack. Chain is tight. Like any other bike, just gotta keep everything adjusted.

I've seen this bike @ Kentucky Kickdown. Wouldn't be a practical daily rider but is a nice bike. Hand polished frame, and yeah, could use a chain tensioner. Followed them on IG for awhile. Hope it sells for ya. I love these bikes but hard to get any good $$. Almost hafta keep em.
