hey guys, weird one here...

I've been riding this bike for about a year since doing the 750 kit. only put about 400 miles on it being that its my "when the planets align and the weather is good" rider, but since the 1st start its been only kicking one out of 5 tries.

goes like this

stuck kick, stuck kick, stuck kick, stuck kick, kicks through. Like clockwork, never kicking through except on the 5th try. Kick lever feels completely stuck all other tries. Obviously this hasn't stopped me from riding it and the motor is strong, but its just a super weird quirk i'd like an answer to, if only to scratch that itch of curiosity.

thanks all

Well, obviously it's not seized or it wouldn't run, lol. I'd say something is amiss with the kick starter gear or it's assembly. To investigate, I'm afraid the right side cover will have to come off. Next oil change then, but if you've got 400 miles on a fresh rebuild and haven't changed the oil yet, it's well past due.

My 650 does this occasionally too.

Pull the clutch in and push it though. Don't try to kick it with force or you'll do damage to yourself! Release clutch and try to kick normally and it should go through at least mine does. I'll leave it to the experts to maybe explain this phenomena ;-)

Bumping this from the depths. Finally got time to look at this bike again. To answer a few of the questions:

Taking out the spark plugs and the kick starter works just fine. Just putting one spark plug in gets it hanging up again.

And I can't pull the clutch due to the fact I'm using a foot clutch on this bike.

Rode it around a bit today, engine is fine.

Thanks for following up. I posted above and mine does it infrequently now. I can just full the clutch in and stroke it once snd then its fine.

i just had the side cover off a month ago and hook up a starter and the kickstart lever is hooked up fine with no binding.

Starts right up cold all the time but most of the time when hot it is very hard to consistently kick start. Works great now with an EarthX battery and a little open throttle.

You might try moving the lever one spline on the shaft. I think you can get the same affect as a "clutch in kick" by placing the bike in gear and rocking it a bit.

thanks gary, moving the kicker pedal down a spline or two does help a bit. now its just every other kick where it just stops dead. still not happy. still confused as to why this would be happening
