XS650 Scrambler Build

Thanks Dave. Today I installed a PMA and checked the clearance on the skid plate and under seat tray. That`s the only things that went right. I might as well start wiring it up so I can take a real ass kicking. I am at the mercy of the Chrome Shop and Shipping Co`s for parts. :banghead:

The guy I got the bits from said that`s what they were. They are from Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. A salvage Co. here in Topeka sells them by the pound when they get them. I have a 5 gallon bucket full. They are oddball sizes like 1/4" in is really .2496 etc. There are numbered and lettered bits too. Most are new and sharp as hell. Good thing too because I can`t sharpen a bit to save my ass! I`m sure someone with aircraft experience will know what these are. Holes:shrug:

I used those drill bits quite a bit during my stint on the Boeing 747 assembly line in Everett... they do a fine job of drilling. Kind of like a drill bit and a reamer all in one!

Man! Your bike is a real beauty! And your shop is set up so well, I’m jealous!
Can’t wait to see this completed! Looks like calendar material!

Thanks Mailman. Looks like your new project is coming right along too.
What a unexpected surprise today. The Chrome shop called. Parts DONE!:D I took them in on Thur the 15th and they were done yesterday. That`s a 3 working day turn around. "UnBelievable"!!! The total cost was $130.00 plus $11.90 tax. Keep in mind the 12 parts were already prepped when I dropped them off so all they had to do was give them the acid bath to clean, hang the parts on the tree or wire, plate them and wrap in newspaper for me to pick up. Chrome is cheap here if you don`t have to pay for the polishing and prep. The last of the parts order`s will arrive tomorrow so I`m all out of excuses. Now it`s time for me to get my ass in gear and wrap this one up so I can start on my new MonoShock build???:shootme:

You paid with cash?? What is this world coming too? LOL
You're right about a 3 day turnaround for chrome...unheard of around here.
A monoshock build? WOW, you're breaking the bar on different ideas for our beloved XS650s.
Hurry, hurry, we want to see your scrambler.....1st

Thanks CoconutPete.
I never spray clear on any of the polished aluminium parts. I just use Simichrome and try to keep things away from the moisture as much as possible.

I`ve had this tube since 1982 when I had the 32 Roadster. Used it to keep the blower nice and shiny. Wear rubber gloves. Our Harley shop still has this. About $12.00 per small tube.

I won't cheat and Google. i remember the tube being mostly yellow, maybe a red background with black lettering in it or is my CRS working ot?

Today I made up a front brake cable and installed it, roughed in the rear brake linkage, chain, installed clutch cable and fitted the left side cover, and installed a new Boyer Bransden ignition. Replaced the old Red Box.
