Right now I'm listening to...

There are some tunes by James Taylor in this thread. I found this interesting thing that is basically his band from the first two or three albums. Kortchmar is really single-handedly responsible for Taylor's success, since he knew Peter Asher at Apple which got the ball rolling. Never used him again after the first album or two, Then Sklar on bass, who he had some falling out with. And Waddy on the far left. Everybody's hair and beards is the same as it was in 1970 but it's now solid white. Pretty funny. Kortchmar had these unique brilliant chromatic, staccato solos like at the end of Suite for 20G. That version of him would be something to seek out on youtube.

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way !

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die !
:)

I also used to feel like that was the anthem of my youth.
Funny story, when I was a mailman , I worked in the retirement community of Sun City.
One day I was delivering mail to one of the big recreation centers that had this huge pool.
I’m walking into the pool area that had music blaring from loud speakers, and what do you think all those white haired people, roasting in the sun were listening to? You got it.....Born to be wild!
I stood there thinking no no this can’t be right, but when I thought about it. There were a lot of baby boomers around that pool, and rock music WAS their generation. :laugh2:

In 1991 Jon Kay and Steppenwolf were the headliners at a free downtown Syracuse Oldies Festival. All the intro bands played what was expected: their hits from the 60's and 70's. But not Kay, the Rebel; he played new material from his 1990 album, Rise and Shine, and made comments about current national politics.
But were we going to leave without hearing Born to be Wild?
I called out to him from the front of the stage, and he obliged..:)

Also notable was the show by Strawberry Alarm Clock.
More Cowbell !!

Dunno Dude, pretty hard to beat...
"In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through the mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages on highway nine,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin' out over the line
H-Oh, Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run"

...two little kids singing in the back yard next door. One of the songs was the National Anthem. It was interesting because they sang it straight and I assumed they must have learned it that way in school. Certainly not from TV, where they always zoosh it up so much it becomes a showpiece for bad taste, even if it wasn't the national anthem.

Gotta pull that DVD off the shelf and watch it again!
The soundtrack for it was the first record I ever bought, age 12 or 13, because of the cover. Didn't actually see the movie until 20 years later.
