Soooo... got a guy at work looking for a run around bike.
I mentioned i had this 1980. I hadn’t really done anything with it since i got it from a friend that passed away a few months back. Before he went, we put in new rings and valve seals, and i ocianed the carbs to get them more adjustable.
So fore the last few weeks i have. Adjusted the clutch, new brake shoes in the rear , new pads up front, new-ish 11mm master cylinder, new air filters, cleaned out the carbs, fuel filter, adjusted the floats. Fresh oil, cleaned the seives.
The compression iis a little low on the left, and it kept fouling out, so i put a 6 plug in it. Seems happy this way. So ill leave it in, and tell the new owner the details on that. Over all, rhis bike is in pretty good shape. Swingarm felt solid when i had the rear wheel off. Bushing may be ok. The front was bouncy, so I drained the forks and added 8 oz of 15wt. Rode great after that. Brakes are a little grabby, but once they bed in, should be smooth.
Anything else i might want to adj before i let it go?

Your straight up Angus. He will know what he's getting..............mind you he will be getting you to do anything else later anyways.

Seems like you have done the basics...assuming charging all that works?

On another note, you should come out to the WMRRA races in a few weeks at the Ridge! :)

Charging system works.
I’d love to check out the ridge.
Swing by! Our next race is the weekend of June 9th/10th. I'm racing an orange/black Honda 175 in the vintage class. #213, find me in the pits.
Saturdays are practice/qualifying rounds... we go twice, once at 9:20am and then again at 11:35am.
Sunday we have our final practice round at 9:30am, and then two races: Race #1: 11:05am; Race #2: 3:15pm.
And there's a whole bunch of other classes running throughout the day. If you want to see some really fast bikes, on Sat. at 1pm, the Formula Ultra Class has 16 laps....these guys haul ass!

And then during lunch on both days... if you have any interest in riding the track, they do a thing called "Taste of Racing" and anyone can take their street bike out (assuming it's not falling apart, and you have appropriate gear on, etc) and do a few controlled laps. It's like $20...and totally worth it. There's more info on WMRRA's website with details...but it's the cheapest 20 min. of track time you can get! :)

Pretty much. You can literally drive/ride in...the main gates are at the parking entrance, I think its like $8 to enter...and then you're literally in the pit area...there will probably be 200-300 racers all camped out throughout the pit area...you are free to wander around, check out bikes and watch races...there's activity going on all day, so keep your head up as you don't want to get in the way of racers heading on/off the track...but it's pretty obvious. And stay as long as you want. Easy. :)

Here are a few pics from last year's races... I was on my first bike, and a "novice" racer...hence my # was 913, and on a yellow background. This was a stock 1972 CL 175 engine and frame, CB200 gas tank and front forks, CB160 front hub/brakes, and then some fiberglass body parts from Airtech. We run Keihin PE24 carbs and jet down a bit. The bike did better than I imagined (It didn't blow up), however it was a bit slower than I had hoped....I finished 6th overall in points, but generally came closer to the back of the pack on most races. :(

I don't have any pics of my new bike on the track yet (we've only had one round so far)...but this bike is a better build. It's a '72 CB175, but bored out to 184, racing valves/springs, adjustable cam, racing cam chain...the only thing I didn't do was port/polishing the head and new valve guides...which I probably will do next year. So far the bike is faster and I'm now getting to the middle of the pack...so that's a good trend. Here's a side by side, and a dyno run of my new bike.

A whopping 16.5hp! Ha ha... at 60mph in 3rd gear. Didn't have a tach on it, as it was interfering with the spark, so not sure how high the rpm's were. These are reported to get up to 20hp at 10,000 rpm's from the factory notes, but I've yet to find one that gets even close to that stock. My first bike was more like 14hp...and the best I've seen is a fellow racer that has his up to 18hp. I think with some head work to increase compression it is viable to get a bit more out of these...but the $ value to increased HP is hard to justify. The best way to get faster from my experience is weight loss... and I'm about the biggest guy in our group, so time to get on a liquid diet or something. :)

Well in drag racing i think for every 100# you gain 1/10 of a second . I dont know if there is a simularity there or not. Im 230#’s sooo if i lost 130, ide pick up1/8?

Sounds about right. :) I weigh about as much as the bike itself...and since the bike is pretty much stripped, I can only work on me for weight savings at this point. Would be so much easier if I could just take parts off...ha ha.

Positive thinking!! Ha ha. I'm secretly adding weights to all the other race bikes...trying to even the playing field so to speak. ;)
