Fork bush removal

Can any onetell me how to remove the bush that is fitted below the oilseal in the bottom leg
 
Razor, I wish I knew, and I hope somebody who does know responds! Whatever Yamaha used to attach that bushing is seriously tough. I experimented with a junk slider, a propane torch, and a blind hole slide hammer puller, and as much heat as I thought was safe for the aluminum didn't loosen the bushing at all. gggGary, what say you?

Ok have removed bushes quite easily. Used a rotary drill with small cutting disc and carefully cut thro bush then eased it out. slightly damaged the seat but that will fine as its not a oil seal

Why would you want to take that bushing out? Im fairly sure it's not designed to be removed, its not even listed as a part on part micro-fiches. You can't replace it. I think its also teflon coated (or something similar).
 
I've been doing some research recently on Teflon/PTFE coated straight wall bushings, and let me tell you, there's a plethora of those things out there. As long as your dimensions are in integer millimeters, chances are good that you can find a replacement...

Ok what i meant was you can't get an OEM part replacement. Regardless it seems like a fair amount of hassle...:shrug:
 
So what do you suggest I do as mine are badly worn, no hassle getting replacements and once I worked out how to get them out took about 2mins a leg to remove them?
 
I'd say keep going. You've come up with a workable method. Post up what you find for dimensions, materials, parts source, reassembly. It really helps everybody to share these tricks, methods, sources. There are numerous parts on these bikes that aren't listed, like clutch pushrod and throttle shaft bushings. And those secret parts are wearing out...

Fair enough. I had a spare fork lower on hand so i just swapped the whole thing.:thumbsup: Well done on finding the part number.

If you want a summary, those bushings were never listed as a part, so there isn't one available specifically for the XS650. However, you can use the part number - 1H3-23125-00. It's intended for the SR500, but I promise it fits the 35mm forks. I've done the swap. You can get it from any Yamaha dealer. Removal of the bushing is tricky, but doable with a Dremel and diamond point bit with a square end. Be patient. New bushing presses in, or you can drive it with a bearing diver set.
