Gents, I purchased a used 79 XS1100 cast front wheel, will I be able to use it as a rear wheel on a 79 XS650?
If this is not possible, what can I use as a cast rear wheel to make a street tracker?

It's been done, but the mounted profile of any tire wider than metric 100 is going to deform on that narrow 1.85 rim.

1978 XS650SE came with cast wheels. Would that work for you?

Grzld has it,there are (were) a few kits to do the conversion floating 'round. I'm not fond of the compromises of the front size bearings used on a rear wheel either. There are some Yamaha 18" cast rear wheels that are 2.15 still on the narrow side and there are some sprocket size issues also.

If you're not going to race it...just use it for a bar bike, yeah, go for it. I used a XS650 front wheel with a conversion kit from
a guy in Texas (not selling them anymore, I think, but Omar's has one) I/my shop mounted a 400 X 19 copy of a Pirelli MT53 on it. The tire recommends a 2.50 rim, but it fit (very hard to mount) the 1.85 one. Like griz says, it's not the correct rim for the tire.

the guy in Texas, a dirt track racer, got busted up pretty good while racing. That's when he stopped making his kits.

Jim Henry was his name. I heard he passed away last year, but can't confirm. He had great prices on his kits and the quality was nice.

Sorry I couldn't remember his name..
Yes, Jim Henry is his name. His kit letyou use a 650 sprocket. You had to supply the bolts and bearings, but that was very easy with his instructions. It cost $160+shipping! You members with a lathe would not have too much problem making them. If he has, indeed, passed(rip) and no patent, I might take my kit off for dimensions if anyone is interested in making them.

I tried this on my Ducati Tracker project and it just didn’t look right at all. I thought I was going to have to fork out the dough to Kidman to get it widened when I discovered that a friend’s Harley bagger had a front wheel that was perfect! It may be a little wide for an xs650. I just bought one of those last week. I can do some measuring if you’re interested....
