Rebuilding a 75, was wondering what you guys opinion on the most complete gasket and seals kit(s) for rebuilding block, top end and heads and transmission?

Cylinders and pistons are within tolerance so just deglazing and honing cylinder walls. Is there a slightly bigger ring application?

Thanks

MikesXS has all that stuff but their prices are rather high. You can do better if you shop around. For instance, this eBay seller from Germany has better prices, quality stuff, and ships fast .....

eBay seller Cruzinimage has nice, reasonably priced stock rings but unfortunately doesn't have 1st oversize ones if that's what you're after .....

Yes, 1st oversize rings will fit on stock pistons and in stock bores but you need to file the ring end gaps. That's the whole point of using them, to get nice tight ring end gaps in a used, slightly worn bore.

Hey, Halftwist!
You beat me to the questions I'm finding out I need to ask. Nine years ago (nine years ago? WTF?) I bought a '75 Xs650 for $200.00 and three bottles of booze. I knew it was a basket case when I bought it, but what the hell, I'll learn. After a bout with cancer, and heart surgery, I've finally gotten my act together (enough) to start bringing the basket case back to life. The build log/thread will begin soon (once I've accumulated enough material visually and printwise to keep people awake). What to call it? "The Basketcase" of course! This forum has been an invaluable source of information, and the only way to learn is to ask people questions that have already been there, done that. A wise man once told me two schools of thought regarding questions: 1) "There's no such thing as a stupid question, if you don't know the answer." and 2) "There's no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid mistakes." The moral of the story is: keep asking questions. Sometimes the answers raise more questions. Only then will you find out what you don't know you didn't know, you know? And take lots of pictures. We like pictures.... Best regards,

Yea I’ll need lots of advice for sure. If I got hit with the big c I might just take that as a sign and stick to trainin horses!

If I learned anything, it's that you have to take life 'pedal to the metal'. No fear ('cause I've already faced some of the scariest stuff there is). My Faith, and attitude are what got me through it. For now, anyway, I'm still working full-time (looking forward to retirement), so my 'motorcycle' time is limited, but I'm determined to make it happen. People ask me "...what do you have? A death wish?..." Nope. I have a LIFE wish. That's why I'm resurrecting "The Basketcase".

The frame looks great! And those look like really awesome welds. Is that a 'Visual Impact' brat kit? Doesn't it make the braces beneath it redundant? I'm wondering just how structurally necessary they are... I want to do a MonsterCraftsman brat kit, and thinking about removing those in lieu of a modified seat loop, which should do the same thing....

Yea it’s the V.I. seat. The braces going sideways I put in for bolting my seat pan to. It’s goin to be a full cushion only seat. The braces underneath are the stock ones I just didn’t cut off. The bike is getting a CDI system so no battery but I want to get it mocked up and running to make sure I don’t need to attach something to them before I cut them out. I may go with an extra oil tank too
