So I have come across a sump plate locally that has been modified to accept spin on filters, the owner states that it was made in Germany.

I'm curious if anyone here is using one of these and if so what the overall opinions of them are?

Thanks in advance!

Interested in seeing the replies to this. Where the heck did you find one locally? Guessing yours is from Heiden Tuning? I just checked Heiden's website, I see he doesn't offer these anymore, but I do seem to recall that he did.

I'm planning on having mine modified by Howard Smedley of smedspeed.co.uk. He also makes extension plates, that lower the oil level. I'm going to do
that too.

looks very vulnerable.
That was my first thought,,,, And, I thought the bottom filter was essentially just a "strainer", a coarse filter for larger particles, a "pre"-filter if you will. That the upper filter (in the clutch cover) was responsible for filtering the smaller particulates. 650Central.com has 'spin-on' filter kits for the secondary filter. They look much less vulnerable (unless you lay the bike down on that side)

Agreed. If I were to do it, I would fit a cooler and remote filter on the front of the frame. But in UK dont need a cooler. The one in the picture looks OK though.

I have a Smedspeed one, they are not as vulnerable as they look, with a low profile filter on they don't stick out much at all.

The filtering is excellent, oil is like new.

I believe the sump strainer is the "main" filter, and side filter is secondary. I know that heiden say even if you get a modern paper side filter conversion, you cannot leave out the sump filter, it's more to do with the path the oil takes I think, like all the bad stuff can happen at the oil pump
before it gets to the side filter??

This one looks quite similar, not sure of the manufacture.
