Cannon Ball 2018, coast to coast. Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon. about..3400 miles.

One hundred and five entries departed. Harley and Indian well represented with several Henderson fours. Many across the pond entries. A trio of one lung Snorton's that came from " down under ", a pair of Broughs.

One of their stops was a three hour drive south of my from door. So we booked a overnight and watched them roll into the Indian m/c plant parking lot around 4pm..in small groups or singularly. After ck in at the official Cannon Ball tent they proceeded to the parking lot for photo op's and questions from the large group of fans.

The next morning at the nearby Ramada Inn.. 100 years of motorcycle history in cast iron was kicked, pushed and coaxed into life. Many machines seemed up to the challenge … particularly the Henderson fours...others snorted, pop'd, back fired, sputtered and seemed reluctant to continue... but perhaps that's the nature of the beast.

It was a great to see history come to smoky smelly life.

On September 9, I was in Norwich, NY, for a music and Arts festival called Colorscape in the center of town, stradling Main St. (Rt 8), which we had to cross repeatedly to attend all the events.

So, I was standing there on the cross walk on the right, waiting for my turn to scoot, when 3 early vintage Nortons roar by. Wow! Took me by such surprize that I didnt think to pull out the camera.
Then, 10 minutes later, there are 4 Indians in the road, then a couple vintage Harleys, then 30 minutes later, 3 Indians on a flatbed, then.............well, you get the idea. It was the Cannonball, I realized later, going south to Binghamton.

No pics; I was just too stunned (and old :(. Old fart reaction time).

.Kelly Modlin's Indian had a gas leak that day, and caught fire

but another rider rescued him, and he got back going !

Frank Westfall of Syracuse NY won last year on his 1912 Henderson.
Stop in to Ironwood Pizza in Manlius on Mondays evenings and you might catch him bragging (deservedly) about his exploit.
Be prepared to get 2 beers for the earful.:)
