Just wanna share some pics and a story of a nice find by my local Yamaha dealer in Dartmouth NS
They found, about 3 hours away a completely original 78 XS650SE which hads not been registered on the road since 1986 and showing just over 5000 km on the odometer The bike is complete, but not running, Paint ,seat ,tires, exhaust all original and in great shape for the paint showing some cracking....motor is free and the shop appear to be in no great rush to work on it....they have on display in the showroom and haven't even cleaned it up...it sits complete with 30 year old cobwebs underneath it.
It certainly is a nice find and a super candidate for a complete restoration

Have they put a price on it as it sits or are they waiting until they fix it up some (get it running)?

Ok thanks. Geez I thought Pro Cycles were the only Yamaha dealer around there and Freedom Cycles before them. I will check them out for sure next time I am in town. Thanks for the info Skip!

Yeah J-C it was Pro....then Freedom, who I liked dealing with because they are good , and about 5 minutes from home....and about 2 years ago Liberty got the Yamaha deal....they have been good so far...and the parts guy I deal with has
a rigid XS 650 chopper....so we speak the same language

This has become a trend in the midwest also. Find and display as found. A few of the nicer ones get restored but mostly as found in their working clothes.

Well....it does its job as a conversation piece in the showroom in a Yamaha dealership nicely...and as the old saying goes "they are only original once".....but it would be a shame , IMO , not to do a nut and bolt restoration on such a solid starting point

De-values a bike doing a nut and bolt restoration. Better value, (more sort after), as an original non restored, especially if it is in such good condition.

Hey Skip. No we havent yet but will be down on the weekend of the 26th of October. Will check it out as soon as we roll into town Friday before they close.

Bummer.....they got the bike torn down to get it all sorted out. Couldnt get to see it in person Skip. Great dealer and staff. Would buy stuff there in the future.

That's a drag J-C...when I was over there last I got the impression that they were content on leaving it in the showroom as a conversation piece...They are a great staff...Steve in the parts counter is a great young guy and he has a 81 XS650 almost complete as a bobber...his dad was well known in the local H-D circles as a builder,so it comes to him naturally.
Well sorry you didn't get to see it...but I hope you enjoy your time here in Halifax.

Thanks Skip. Was a windy ride thru the pass but made it here. Always love coming to Halifax. Usually do a trip with the family every 6 months or so. Great time here. Take care Skip!
