Anyone on here completely remove the back half of their exhausts on both sides and essentially just run the headers? Pros? Cons? Adjustments needed?
Expect tuning problems.
Do a forum search on "open headers"...

Find a way to stuff these into those headers and it will run better, I'm serious.

Has anyone else ever used these when they ran just the stock headers? And what would be the payoff to using these?
I'm working on it, or something similar, with about an 8" extension/cover at the end of the headers. The benefit would be back pressure, easier carb tuning and quieter.

... but is it do-able?
Sure. Think of it like a "lomcevak". It's been done...
Are you just going to weld them in there? Or actually weld in a threaded piece for them to screw into?
My goal is short loud pipes for a bobber build that won’t break the bank...
Sure, you can simply cut off the mufflers, and it'll be loud, but won't run well. That "open headers" search should keep you busy for awhile...
I'm not sure yet. Probably not weld them. Maybe connect to that pipe fitting with something that can be wedged into the header. I bought two of them to look at. The weld/crimp on the can is too big to fit into the extensions that I bought. Might be easier to build from scratch. But I am going to experiment with something about that restrictive. Those mufflers still may work with a few alterations.

... so what’s the secret?
