I am considering selling my 79 XS Special, and will be taking it to the North Carolina rally as well as to Barber Vintage Fest directly afterward, if you want to see it. If anyone is interested I will bring the title and paperwork along.
This is a low miles unmolested orignal in perfect working order.Stored indoors all these years it is in fantastic condition. Has the rear disk brake and black paint with gold fleck. Everything has been rebuilt, ie carbs, new air cleaners and air boot, brakes, rebuilt gas petcocks, valves adjusted, speedo and tach lubed, etc., etc. Has the original seat, perfect paint, cases stripped of old clear coat and polished, new battery...it looks like new and runs perfect. All electrical is works perfect. Asking $3000 And I'll guarantee you won't find a better one. Original tools, owner's manual, sales brochure, key... it's all there. Thanks for looking. 314-303-4490 to reach me.

I'll agree with this statement from the your pics 79XStLouis. Beautiful bike and you shouldn't have any problems selling it.

That is one beautiful piece of machinery right there Sir.....You should carefully reconsider selling her....you would never find another as unmolested as that beauty is.
Take it from me....I sold my bike I lovingly owned and restored for 8 years....sold it spur of the moment..... regretted selling it....then had the opportunity to buy it back 7 years later when the gentleman who bought it from me passed away....so take it from someone whos been there , done that...give it carefull thought...

Much appreciated. I know I'd never find another this nice. My first motorcycle was an 81 XS, so this was a nostalgia trip. I'm one of those guys that restores something to perfection then goes looking for another bike to rebuild. Since I lost my wife to cancer, rebuilding bikes maintains my sanity and passes the time.

Appreciate that info...I am on a fixed income so it will take me a good deal longer to save the money than there will be time for this bike to be sold..no doubt..I'm here in NC too...

After all this time, and meets, did it sell ?

That is a fantastically beautiful XS brought back to it's original glory. If it hasn't sold yet for 3 Grand is it because there just isn't enough love out there to own one of these kick butt Classics? Are there so many out there that bringing one back to chopper/bobber/resto/ glory just not going to get you the financial reward that bringing an old Ducati 750 back to life will?

I don' know. Right now my 79 XS is looking and running pretty good. My labor at 10 cents per hour doesn't make it worth very much. Why not?

So, back in 1974 I'm riding my 73 Ducati 750, (that is now worth about 15 grand), and I get into a roll on drag race out in the Smokey Mountains heading back to D.C. with a guy on an XS650. Each gear shift put me one bike length behind.

It still sits with me.

Did he has a 750 kit in that XS you 'raced' ?

I'd buy that XS listed just above, but have a few difficulties with transportation etc that might be worked out or not. I also have 2 others/ridwers, so it wouldn't be a catastrophe if it didn't happen. Is it in CO or MO though, the postings above are a little confusing.
