Good eye azman. It's a 83 R100RT.
Mailman you are right Carl Cranke was quite a racer. Did well at the 6 Days but really excelled at desert racing. I remember reading one year how the Europeans were in awe of his top speeds on some of special tests. He was clocked at over 110 mph a few times. And that was on grass.
Yes that is a Hurricane. I don't think you would display it your living room in the condition it is in right now. The plates on it are from 1990. It kept my XS2 company in my storage building since then.
The Enfield was my 60th birthday present to my self last year. About 12 years ago I took a position that was 100% travel. I was on the road between 300 and 330 days a year. Needless to say the BMW got parked. I decided last year I wanted to ride again. Since I had nothing that was going to be easy to get running and at the time no good place to work on anything I would get a new bike. I happened to see a pic of the Royal Enfield Continental and it fit the bill. Always wanted a thumper plus also always wanted a Cafe. It is a blast to ride.
Which leaves the shop. Last summer I knew I was getting close to pulling the plug on work. Wasn't fun anymore. I knew I would need someplace to tinker with my bikes. Since my existing garage did not fit the bill I decided to build one. As you can see old garage not very big.
In order to get bigger I had to sink it into the hill.
It's built well. Back wall 10 inch thick, wing walls 8 inch, 2x6 studs.
Since I was going to spend a lot of time in it I wanted it nice inside and economical to heat and cool. 2x6 studding with denim insulation gives the wood walls about R21. Had the ceiling blown to R50+. Paneling is 3/4 inch ACX plywood that I sanded and stained. I can put a shelf anywhere I want. I did the electrical myself. That's 1 1/2 emt going to the first box. Then a 1 inch perimeter run going completely around the ceiling with boxes every 6 to 8 feet. Made it very easy to pipe outlets and all the other stuff.
Which brings me to why I am on this forum. My ultimate goal is to get my 650 running again. Going to get the BMW ready to ride for next spring. Do a few things to the Enfield and then start on the XS2. I bought it from my brother when I was 18. Rode it a lot for quite a few years. Had a lot of good times with it and a few bad on it. Here it is when I brought it home. As you can see I committed the ultimate sin to it. I just parked it. It's all there and it's not stuck. My goal is not to restore it to like new. It's to make it mechanically sound and presentable. Not going to be a rat bike by any means. When I get started on it I'll start a thread. I'm in no hurry so it may take a year or 3 before its running.When it's done then the Triumph.

That’s such a great story. You’ve really built yourself a fine garage, I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I’m enjoying my recent retirement. By the way , you know we share another common interest...I too am knee deep in an XS2 resto.

Mailman I've been following that thread since you started it. I've been following this forum for awhile and have been very impressed with yours and all the other build threads. The wealth of information and depth of knowledge here is astounding. Plus everyone is more than willing to help each other.

I absolutely LOVE the look of a DT tank on an XS. If I had found Vlad-the-impaler's bike http://www.xs650.com/threads/finally-finished-my-xs650.53139/ , in the form that he bought it, I'd have just detailed it out and gone with that.

I’ve got this one sitting on a shelf. Not a DT but similar from a TY250 trials bike. I am tempted to give it a try on my tracker project if I ever get around to it, but will require moving the front mounts back a bit. But for now it looks nice on the wall with my beat up black star tank next to it.
Im sure that those teeth are available on line Dude - check eBay.
Ok, so I just got back from a meditation meeting that a family member had invited my wife and I to that was held at a local church. On the way out we saw this small art display outside their chapel that caught my eye. 2 local tattoo artists had a couple dozen painting on display. I snapped a few pics of my favorites. They were not for sale but I would have loved to have them on display in my workshop.
I’ve just added a new rogues gallery to my garage. Forum members from our current calendar.
