Today I chamfered the rest of the holes and removed all the nicks, scratches, tire iron marks etc from the rims the easy way with a minimum of abrasives used. will clean and mask off for paint tomorrow.
Got the frame & swing arm back from the powder coater. Just like Christmas only 10X better!. Since the shop/dealer wanted $45 ea to mount the tires I did this myself and without a scratch. Used 2 MotionPro tire irons and plastic rim protectors. No excuses now! Time to start assembling.
Yep very tedious work taping off all those wheels. I just did mine this summer, but it pays for it in the end taking your time. I was very happy with my results. What kind of paint are you using?
I`ll use Bulldog adhesion promoter but still deciding between hammered gray or bright red. I`m leaning towards the hammered gray as the rotors look better with the gray hubs. (IMHO) however red wheels would have a good contrast with the gray hammered powder coated frame and swing arm. Maybe I`ll flip a coin?
May I presume that you will paint your tank white like your other builds? If so, I would go with the red wheels. They would not only give contrast like you say, but they would bring attention to your all your modifications, ie: swingarm, monoshock and beautifully polished engine.
Finished painting the wheels today. Googled some red wheels on a XS but went with the hammered finish gray because it covered and mottled as it should in 2 coats. Maybe I`ll do another set of wheels in red but the red requires more film build up to cover as the holes have to be sprayed from 4 sides to coat the inside of the holes. I`ll probably bead blast the factory black coating off to get a more uniform base to start with. Besides if I win that Billion+ I`ll get the new Mikes hubs and string up some 18`s! .
This morning I marked and drilled the front rotor then chamfered the holes and removed most of the wear groves/lines. Next I`ll mask it off and paint the center.
