I just got on their website for the first time, in a long time, to try and find some badly needed valve spring retainers, and it seems they are out of the engine parts business. I'm a little stumped as to where to go from here. May give 650 central a call.

I could not get ANY head parts to come up on their web page. I can't imagine why valve collets needs to be such a big deal. The ones Gary posted are 01-9093 and in the fitment they are listed for 1978 and 1980. they jump right over 1979. The link from Marty lists 01-9071 and they do show for a 1979. I have sent Mikes a message hoping to get the right ones this time. I will say that if a get an answer from them, it will be the first time I have ever heard back from a "contact us" E-Mail. Thanks for the help Gary and Marty.

There was a change in the keeper design, along with the valves, but it happened much earlier than your model, sometime during the '73 production run. Your '79 is the same as all the other years from '74 on up. If you look at your valve, you'll see the groove cut into it for the keeper is rounded .....

The lip inside the keeper that fits into it is also rounded .....

The early style valves and keepers had square cut grooves and lips on the keepers .....

Besides omissions (your '79 model), the MikesXS model listings also incorrectly list the early '70-'73 models as being compatible with their keepers. That's not right. Their rounded lip keepers aren't going to fit early square groove valves.

That's really good info. thanks! Mine are definitely the late style keepers. Now I have to figure out how to make sure MikIMG_2317.JPG es sends me the right ones, this time.
