Other Bikes and Workshop Woes

It was on a v star 650 had a gel insert. I took out the gel and put in one of those inflatable horseshoe neck pillows with just a LITTLE air in it, put 4,000 miles on it last summer on my RSV. Best ride yet. I packed an extra blow up pillow but the $2.00 thing is going strong. The air really eliminates pressure points. My bony ass has no padding. I throw it on when needed for longer rides, "fitz-all" bikes.

I might need two of them for my fat ass.... Ha! Hey Gaz, they look great for long 5 hour rides, its about then I start to clag out and fall in a crumpled mess...

WER, what's "Monkey butt" ? I can only guess and it wasn't pretty :)

I learned years ago when I used to travel a lot to liberally powder my ass before long rides, lol. It really did help. I didn't know they had special stuff for it, lol. I had various add-on seat pads too. One was fake sheep skin with gel and an air bladder. Adding air didn't work too well. It was like sitting on a big bubble, lol, plus it leaked out in an hour or so. Worked best with no air in it. I also had a plain old hunk of real sheep skin. It worked surprisingly well.

Ha! Gaz funny that because we did the same, I rode with mine for over 15 years, riding mad pure bred Arabians, training at all hours of the day and night to compete "to complete is to win" . We gave it away about 6-7 years ago after Lisa had a really bad fall / thrown off and broke multiple bones. She had been riding since 12 years old and was in hospital for ages with pins & plates, swore that she was never going to ride again.....and being true to her word, she never did. I continued on for another year but it wasn't the same, ended up selling the land and moving to suburbia...off track but never really got a monkey butt riding horses, always had a great saddle...I'll send you some pictures when I find them
On a side note everytime I assed off myself (numerous) I always said " where's the bloody stop button on these things, one day I am going to get one that has one" ha! Ohh the memories, you know the bike gives you a similar experience being out there just you and the bike ?
 
EXACTLY Michaelo! Wife is all Arab all the time, I was 40 first time I got on a horse, was hollering where's the brakes!! the whole time! they're like a TZ750, hair trigger throttle, damn near no brakes. Her worst monkey butt came when "Hal" thought he could jump OVER a 30' river part way through a 50 mile ride. Can't imagine riding 20 miles soaking wet.
 
Resurrecting an old post to give a little update (back from post #45 for those interested)...so the race season has ended. SUCH A BLAST!!! And I'm proud to say that I was able to get one of the 4 honda's into a race bike and officially finished 6th overall in my class. Not too bad I think for my first season on a bike brought back from the dead and on a very limited budget. :)

Here's a pic of the bike as I had it prior to the season starting (Yes, this is my basement...no room in the garage):

I learned a lot over this last year and did some major and minor improvements to the bike... which helped get my top speed up, and my lap times down. Here's a pic on the track (Yes, it's a very tiny bike):

But, I also learned that in order to better compete I would need to build a better engine and do some real tuning, degree'ing the cam, better valves, springs and better pistons, etc. . So that's what I'm doing now. Here's a pic of my shiny, vapor blasted and completely rebuilt 2nd engine as it's getting assembled.

This will go into this new frame with designs and upgrades that I learned I wanted after last season.

2018 season ought to be really fun!! If anyone's in the Auburn (Pacific Raceways) or Shelton (The Ridge Motorsports Park), or Portland (Portland Int'l Raceway) this next summer...come check out the vintage racing...it's pretty awesome!
 
Beautiful job on that little Honda Brassneck! It must be riot blasting around a track on that little buzz-bomb!

Thanks Pete! The next one will look (And more importantly ride) even better/faster! I can't really describe how exhilarating it is to be on one of these tiny bikes on a track at WOT and just wring the hell out of it, trying to keep up momentum and throwing it through the curves....perma grin the whole time.

The XS runs like a top, and rode it all over this summer every chance I could. Would love to get a lighter clutch on it, or perhaps just go through it again and see if I missed something on the adjustment. It's such a bear sometimes. But that's what I love about XS's I suppose....they aren't perfect. :)
 
Brassneck get out and do it while you can.
Classic racing is great fun and wandering round the pits is half of it, looking for bikes that you or your mates owned.
Plus you don't have to spend a fortune on your bike and there is always someone to race against no matter where you are in the field.
What developments are you doing for the 2018 season?

Mick whats the story with the Trident, is it a modified Hurricane or replica body work?
What are you doing to it?
 
Triumph Hurricane is the real deal, there has been two through the shop, imports from USA. $40k each, this one is a real machine and I am going to test ride it once the re build is done. There has been modifications done as this one is race machine, slicks, compressed air assisted gear shift and lots more mod's to the original bike but it is a real Triumph Hurricane....

here's me looking like i am Burt Munro at Bonneville salt flats......I am going to ride this baby....

The biggest change for the new bike is my sitting position and some motor work... on my bike last season, I felt pretty cramped on it, and getting low was more of a contortionist maneuver, ha ha. So on this build, I've built a lighter/solid mount for the fairing (welded a bracket to the down tube and made it adjustable) in order to extend the fairing forward about 2 inches more or less as needed. I've also moved my seat back about an inch and the foot pegs are down a half inch. so I can get lower and essentially lay down on the gas tank in the straights. For the motor, I've torn down the other two spare motors and taken the best of each. removed some weight (Kick-starter assembly), and built it back up with freshened up transmission, clutch, etc... I've bored out the piston's 1mm over, and have heavier/racing spec valves/springs, with new valve seats, seals, etc. On the cam, I've put in an adjustable cam to get the timing spot on (As the stock cam's were ok for the street, but have a little variance in them which impacts performance...for example, I found my stock cam on my bike last season was retarded by almost 5 degrees from the factory). My hope is the new bike and engine will be a lot more "umph!" and I won't get pulled away from on the straights. :)

Great work on this bike Brassneck really like the engine improvements. Did you port and polish the head at all? The carburetors, what did you do there? Just asking this because when you lump the cam for better performance, IMO, you may as well throw more gas down it’s guts and try to get the burnt shit out fast too :) looking good, also can you adjust the timing on the go at all?

All those bikes just got to be a ton of fun! I ran a CB350 around on the streets for a yr or 2. It was a blast to ride around on, but it was no freeway bike.

Brassneck thats a beautiful bike, nice work! I'd love to know more about it, do you have a build thread for this bike somewhere?
