Just wanted to give back to the folks on this forum as best I knew how, given that it is such a wealth of information and people are so giving of their time to help others. So the emblems on my 81 were trashed, cracked, and looked like crap. I didn't want to spend the $40+ minimum to buy new ones, so I set about getting vinyl letters cut. My daughter is a bit of an artist so she cut some up for me after tracing the emblem. I know others have done the same, so this is nothing new. However, since we have the cutting machine and vinyl, I will ship these vinyl letters to whomever would like a set for cost of shipping plus say $5.00. Maybe an even $8 bucks or so? Simply sand the letter faces down, paint them with a nice gloss black, apply the vinyl stickers (may have to trim a few spots with exacto knife), and then clear coat. A bit of work, but you get the satisfaction of restoring your own and save a few bucks in the process. Here are a few before and after pics. Used some JB Weld to fix cracks and repair chipped areas first.

I'll love to have 2 sets... please. :)
I'll have them in the mail within a day or so. No need to pay anything - I want to make sure the first few people are pleased with the way they turn out before I charge anything.

Two tanks.... 2 sets.... 4 Yamaha's

Yes, Paypal is fine but let me send you a set first. If you like them you can then pay. PM your mailing address.

Count me in 2XSive. I'll buy a set when your ready to sell just let me know. Nice bike you have there and I love the paint!

For those of you who would like a set, please PM your mailing address to me. I'll get a bunch of the letters cut out and mailed hopefully by tomorrow. If you like them and they work out for you, then you can pay. As for instructions, you'll cut and separate each vinyl letter and apply them one at a time onto the badge. There are two coverings over the vinyl. You peel the top layer off and the vinyl letter sticks to that top layer while holding onto the bottom layer. The bottom of the letters are then revealed which contain the glue/stick-on part of the letter. Simply line up the letter, apply and rub the top layer with your finger. Once the letter adheres to the emblem, gently peel the top layer off. I had to use an exacto knife to trim in a couple of spots prior to clear-coating. Just need a sharp Exacto knife and take your time. The results are in my pics above. Easy to do.

For those of you considering these foil letters to restore their tank badges all I can say is BUY THEM.

When I started my 81 resto the badges were so bad that I ordered a set from Mikes at $38.00+ freight (fright?)
They're not close to the originals in quality, especially at that price. After trying and failing to paint them and
have them look good I cut them and created 1 badge that says: YAMAMAHA.

Now that I have the ability to restore them properly they have been separated and returned to the original lettering
so they can be restored.

Here they are after painting and then applying the new letters. Clear coating them is the final step before putting them back on.

These are well worth the money, especially since you have the pleasure of being able to say you restored them yourself.

When they're finished I'll post a final image.
