I know this is a LONG shot but I have a set of (80's) Shoei saddlebags and I'm trying to find a key for them. Haven't been to the locksmith yet but if all else fails that's what I'll do. Best I can tell Shoei .....who stopped offering luggage decades ago had at least three types of hasps. I've included photos of what mine looks like and what the keys for it looks like. Key code 201. My bet is the keys got left on the bikes key chain ( there seems to be a LOT of them missing) .....so there's a slim chance one of you out there might have a key like this in a drawer/shelf somewhere. OR.....you actually have some Shoei luggage that uses this key code and I could get a copy from you?????
Beating the bushes here in NC......Gordon

PS: For the XS650 content the bags are going to be mounted on my "Black" 1978 XS650.

Another PS:........these keys weren't individually cut for a specific piece of luggage. IF you have a key that looks like the one in the photo and it's code is 201 (there were other codes) then it should fit my bags......there were probably hundreds of them out there at one time...if not thousands. The luggage business just didn't work out for Shoei so they sold off all their leftovers to Dixie International (still in business) but all that stuff is long gone now.

I’d honestly try a locksmith, I’ve had everything made from roof rack keys to truck box keys through out the years(I help run an independent auto shop), and I’ve never spent over $10 for a set. Just bring in the lock mech and they should be able to sort ya out, just my .02 from a guy who’s used the service a bunch of times

yep that looks mighty simple to pick open and copy. prolly could cut a working key from the picture!

I’d honestly try a locksmith, ......snip

ECE....That is a valid point BUT...................................around this part of the woods there are no more "walk in" type locksmith shops. They have gone the way of the shoe repair man. Our last one retired decades ago. They have been replaced by the guy in a van that does emergency 24 hour service.....and brother, he ain't gona charge you $10 to drive out to your house and spend an hour messing around with an old motorcycle saddlebag latch. Now to be honest I haven't actually asked one what he'll charge mainly because I'm not in a hurry. If it comes down to it I can go into Winston-Salem or the Charlotte area and find a walk in......but we're talking any where from 2 to 4 hours driving and like I said.....I'm not in a hurry.

If you're a betting man........I'll make you a bet. IF I decide to go the locksmith route the very next swap meet I go to there's going to be a set of those keys lying on someones table....I'd bet on it. ( that's my kinda luck) So if I just wait until I go to the Vintage meet in Eustis, Florida first of next month maybe I can get it done that way....but of course if i haven't visited the locksmith there won't be any keys on a table.....life is cruel that way.

Either way....I'm not in a panic. My '75 is bagged with a set of period Yamaha accessory bags so I have a bagger if I need one.

Spring is just around the corner........man oh man it can't get here fast enough to suit me.

Take care......Gordon in NC

Gary, I sent the photo to a couple of on line locksmith types but both of them said they didn't carry the correct blanks????

I'll get it one way or the other.....not really in a hurry, it's just a to do item on the list.

Hope to get to actually meet you face to face this year........Gordon in NC

SO CLOSE.......these come with a trunk that would have been a perfect match to the bags I have.....I KNOW somebody, somewhere out there has these keys and probably doesn't even know what they go to. Hopefully they are like me and NEVER ( or almost never) throw anything away.

The search continues............................Gordon in NC

UPDATE!!!!!!!! FOUND THOSE SUCKERS!!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO. If anybody out there needs a copy for their Shoei bags......KEY CODE 201 ( yes, if your lock has 201 stamped on it....they will work) I will be more than happy to send you a couple. I know how hard it is to find them. That said........Shoei used different types of latches. If and when I get around to it ( you know how slow I can be) I'll post a photo of this type. The earlier ( I think they are earlier?) locks are a lot easier to get a key for.....as a matter of fact I have a link to a place that sells the whole latch with keys.....brand new and are a direct replacement.

Now if I could just find keys for my aftermarket Yamaha bags on my 1975B...............I'd be happy as a little girl.

Looking forward to meeting some of you face to face at the XS rally.........Gordon in NC

Hi!!
First I want to congratulate you on finding the vintage keys for your shoei luugage. I’m searching for mine as well. Except the code on the lock is 102. I found the keys on eBay, but it was sold in April 2020. Could you be the person that bought it? If so, I would be so happy to have a copy of the key.
